    Hi Buddy,

It seems like your thinking of the last and top most step of ladder but you forgot that you should climb the ladder from the very first step itself, Before applying for any of the civil services examination first you should check whether you meet the specific eligibility criteria or not, there are no special examination for services such as IAS/IPS as both these are a part of civil service examinations, if you fulfill the criteria then you're eligible to apply for Civil Services Examination, Civil services examination is conducted every year by UPSC.

    Academic Qualification :

    * You must be a graduate in any of the streams from a recognized university.

    Age limits:

You must have attained 21 years and not be over 30 years on August 1 of the year of examination.
The upper age limit is relaxed in specific cases as mentioned below:
upto a maximum of 5 years if the candidate belongs to SC/ST.
upto a maximum of 3 years if the candidate belongs to Other Backward Classes(BC's)

    Number of attempts :

The number of attempts can vary based on the Reservation your have i.e
    - General candidates: four attempts.
    - Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates: No restriction.
    - Other Backward Classes: seven attempts.

    Physical Requirement :

There examination will be conducted in Three different stages by the UPSC.

Preliminary exam (civil service aptitude test)
    Main examination

Preliminary Examination would consist of two papers- Paper I and Paper II.

Syllabus for CSAT as proposed by UPSC
    (Paper 1) (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs
(Paper II) (200 marks) Duration : Two hrs

The final interview is of 300 marks.

    Civils Exam Pattern :

After the completion of the three stages of tests you will be tested in physically by conducting tests like running, chest expansion etc.. You must be be among the top 150 ranks in order for you to get into IPS as any better rank i.e less than 100 will open up the option of IAS.

I appreciate your interest and have huge respect for your clear way of thinking i.e Fix a goal and achieve it, but you are just into your 10th after which you have to complete your 12th standard and graduation.

Civils is one of the most toughest examination in India, so make reading as a habit and follow newspapers/magazines, constantly be in touch with current affairs and latest happenings,if you're eligible take time don't just be in a hurry to take the exam and waste an attempt.

Since, You are left with a time period of 6 years so you can slowly start preparing for Civil Services from now itself, simultaneously concentrating on your educational career.

You have a goal now strive hard with determination and confidence, achieve higher in career.

    All the best.

Its a good decision to enter in to the Civil Services. The minimum eligibility for attending the civil service exam is a graduation in any discipline. The candidates can take up graduation in any discipline. It is important for you to start your preparation earlier to succeed in the exam. But you can start your preparation after you complete the 12th class. You can join some Civil service coaching institutes. Mock tests and interview will be conducted by the coaching institutes. This will help the candidates to gain more confidence to face the test and interview. These institutes will provide valuable inputs to succeed in the exam. The candidates should create good reading habits which will help them to know about the current happenings.
