Thumbs up Re: In which year 10%-20% goes for lateral entry students of Engineering colleges in Tamilnadu?

    Hi friend,

From 2011,the rule of alloting 10% seats to Diploma holders in Engineering has been changed.According to the new rule, every Engineering College which allows Lateral Entry to Diploma holders must allot 20% seats of Total seats to Diploma holders.

    Implementation of New rule:

As this new rule has to be implemented from 2011,so let me explain this with an example.

For e.g. :> If an Engineering College has 120 seats for a particular branch, then it has to allot 24 seats out 0f 120 seats for Diploma holders who will get admission under Lateral Entry scheme. So,the % of seats reservation for Diploma holders in Engineering has been increased from 10% to directly 20%.

As you want to take admission in Engineering on the basis of Diploma course. So,you must have to clear an entrance exam known as LEET(Lateral Engineering Entrance Test). It is a type of Engineering Entrance Test for Diploma holders. But for appearing in the LEET,you must have to satisfy the eligibility conditions for that.

The eligibility conditions for LEET are:

    • You should have passed your Diploma from a recognized Institute or any State Board of Technical Education.
    • You should have cleared your diploma with minimum 60% marks.
    • You should not have any backlogs left in Diploma.
    • Your age should not be more than 28 years at the time of test.

On the basis of your rank in the LEET test, you will be assigned College, the higher rank you will score in the Test, the better College you will get. Moreover,on the basis of LEET,you will directly get admission in 2nd year of Engineering. So,the course duration for you will be 3 years instead of 4 years.

Take admission in B.Tech.Eligibility for taking admission in B.Tech is :
You need to have atleast 60% marks in diploma With no Backlog pending.(If there is any you need to clear it first)
After that you will have to appear in LEET (Lateral Engineering entrance Test)to take direct admission in B.Tech. second year/third semester.
LEET is held by the board from which the college is affiliated. It is held in The month of June.

Note that every engineering college does not offer admission through diploma, so you better check for the diploma colleges in which state you want to take admission.
ke admission in B.Tech. . If your rank is high , then you will be preffered first by the respective college you want to take admission.
Seats are limited(10-15%) in every trade for diploma students. You need to work hard to get admission in B.Tech. in some good engineering college.

You can take admission in B.Tech by 2 ways :-
    1. After passing 10+2 exam science stream through AIEEE, IIT-JEE, UPTU, PTU, RTU or various state level entrance exam taken annually for B.Tech course.
    2. Lateral entry in 2nd year of B.tech course is done after passing 3 years diploma in any trade with at least 60% through a common exam called LEET (Lateral Engineering entrance Test)
For taking admission in 2nd year through LEET in tamilnadu you should have passed this exam with higher rank, because candidates will be preferred accordingly to the rank in the merit list of the candidates.
Seats are limited around 10-20% in each trade for lateral entry students so you have study very hard for taking the admission in B.Tech course through lateral entry.

Good luck for your better future.
