Re: Why the atom is Neutral? What is the reason behind it?

Atom has three basic elemnts: Proton , Electron ,Neutron

Nucleus consist of protons and neutrons

protons are positively charged and neutrons are electrically neutral

Electrons have negative charge and revolve around the nucleus
Nucleus has positive charge and protons have negative charge
Both the positive and negative forces apply forces on each other.
Both positive and negative charges cancel each other and due to which atom look neutral

    Best of luck

Number Of Protons And The number Of Electrons In An Atom Is Always The Same. Therefore, The electric charges cancel each other. This is main effect Atom is Neutral.
An Atom Is made up of three different kinds of subatomic particles, namely Protons, Electrons And neutrons. Protons are +vely Charge, And electrons are -vely charge. So they cancel each other.

The number of protons and the number of electrons in an atom is always equal.
Therefore, the electric charges cancel each other.
So that is why The atom is neutral.
I hope so this will clear your small doubt.

    General rules ::

Proton is responsible for the +ive charge in the atom
Electron is responsible for the -ive charge in the atom
Neutrons are neutral that means neither they are +ve charge nor -vr charge.

Nucleus consists of the neutrons and the protons .Since the neutrons have no charge and protons have + ve charge therefore the over all charge in the nucleus is positive

As you can see from the structure of the atom the number of atoms and no of electrons are same which means there is no charge at all in the atom and this is the only reason atom is an stable element .

Firstly we know meaning of neutral, Neutral having no charge like +ve or -ve. It is 0 valuabe.
    ok
In atom has three elements like neutron, electron or proton.
    proton have +ve charge
    Electron have -ve Charge
when electron rotate in atom they cancle the charge of Protons like +ve. So This is main effect ,
    Atom is neutral.

    Why atom is neutral

There are certain forces which governs the behavior of the protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Without these forces atom cannot be stable .
As you see Nucleus is made up of Neutrons and protons ,an attractive force (like gravitational much stronger than gravitational) called electromagnectic force which holds protons together against their own repulsive forces .The energy associated with this is called binding energy .
The electrons are kept in orbit around the nucleus because there is an electromagnetic field of attraction between the positive charge of the protons and the negative charge of the electrons.
As you see structure of carbon atom

But as no of protons increases in no, Stability of atom is decreased ,proton-proton repulsive force become dominant over P-P,P-N,& N-N electromagnetic force. Thats the reason we have Radioactive elements and many unexplained phenomenons .

Hope you might get some basic idea why atom is stable or unstable .

Its because the sum of positive and negative charge is equal in a neutral atom. Positive charge is centered in nucleus and negative surrounds it in circular orbits. (This model is proposed by Bhor)

    >>IN AN ATOM THERE ARE NUCLEUS AND ELECTRONS ON IT.

    >>IN THE NUCLEUS THERE ARE NUMBER OF PROTONS.AND OUTSIDE NUCLEUS THERE ARE SAME NUMBER OF ELECTRONS IN IT.

    >>SO THE SAME NUMBER OF PROTONS AND ELECTRONS MAKE THE ATOM NEUTRAL

the reason behind the atom being neutral is that the no of proton inside the nuclues is equal to the no of electron revolving around it. the electron are negatively charged and he protons are positively charged and having same number they neutralize the atom

see basically in atom there are 3 parts or you can say it constitutes three things i.e electron, proton and neutron....
proton and neutron are embeded inside the nucleus and electron is found revolving in the outer orbits....
proton is a positive charged particle and electron a negative...and neutron is electrically neutral i.e.no charge...so as a whole atom is neutral coz in neutral atom no of electrones is equal to no. of protons....

Atoms are neutral because the charge of an electron is -1.6 x 10^-19 and the charge of a proton is +1.6 x 10^-19.
They are opposites and balance each other out.
If you have to put this on H.W. just write down the charge of the electron and charge of the proton cancel each other out.

The number of protons and the number of electrons in an atom is always the same. Therefore, the electric charges cancel each other. The atom is neutral.

An atom is made up of three different kinds of subatomic particles, namely protons, electrons and neutrons. Protons are positively-charged, and electrons are negatively-charged.

The charge on an electron has the same charge as that on a proton, but has the opposite sign. (With a charge of -1 for the electron and +1 for the proton. So just as in simple maths +1 and -1 cancel each other out to giving a sum of 0, to make the atom neutral.) So as long as the protons and electrons are present in equal numbers, the atom overall will have a neutral charge. By definition, an atom has an equal number of protons and neutrons.

    good luck !!!
