Re: Who invented Internet? How does Internet works?

No question is silly....................... "A person who asks doubt is a fool for that moment but one who never asks doubt is a fool for life" _ Chinese proverb

Here goes my answer.......................... To be precise no one can be rewarded the claim of finding the internet........................ It developed due to the consequent process of several process which happened over a period of several years. The internet what you & me use today wasn't the way when it was born.

I will try my level best to explain every aspect to you. I cant explain this in two lines because it needs lots of data to be given to you. Hope you have the patience to read all this stuff.

    Dates & events:
1950's: Development of electronic computers which paved way for point to point communication b/w mainframe computers & terminals
1960: AT&T introduces the dataphone and the first known MODEM.
1961:Leonard Kleinrock publishes his first paper entitled "Information Flow in Large Communication Nets" is published May 31, 1961.
1962 Leonard Kleinrock releases his paper talking about packetization.

    1965:
Lawrence G. Roberts with MIT performs the first long distant dial-up connection between a TX-2 computer in Massachusetts and Tom Marill with a Q-32 at SDC in California.

Donald Davies coins the word "Packet."

    1966:
Robert Taylor joins ARPA and brings Larry Roberts there to develop ARPANET.

Lawrence G. Roberts and Tom Marill publish a paper about their earlier success at connecting over dial-up.

    1968:

Larry Roberts publishes ARPANET program plan on June 3, 1968.

UCLA is selected to be the first node on the Internet as we know it today and serve as the Network Center.

    1972:

    First public demo of ARPANET.

    1973:
Robert Metcalfe creates the Ethernet at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC).

The first VoIP call is made.

    1974:

A commercial version of ARPANET known as Telenet is introduced and considered by many to be the first Internet Service Provider (ISP).

    1981:

    BITNET was founded.

    1983:

    ARPANET standardizes TCP/IP.

    1984:

Paul Mockapetris and Jon Postel introduce DNS.

    1986:
    NSFNET is created.
    BITNET II is created.

    1990:
    ARPANET replaced by NSFNET.

The first search engine Archie, written by Alan Emtage, Bill Heelan, and Mike Parker at McGill University in Montreal Canada is released on September 10, 1990.

    1991:

Tim Berners-Lee introduced WWW to the public on August 6, 1991.

NSF opened the Internet to commercial use.

    1995:
    The dot-com started.

The SSL protocol was developed and introduced by Netscape in February 1995.

On April 1, 1995 the Opera browser was released.

The first VoIP software (Vocaltec) was released allowing end users to make voice calls over the Internet.

On August 16, 1995 Microsoft introduced and released Microsoft Internet Explorer.

AND AFTER MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER YOU KNOW WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED. ADOBE FLASH PLAYER WAS INTRODUCED, WIFI, WEB BLOGGERS, GOOGLE, ENCYCLOPEDIAS, FIREFOX BY MOZILLA GOOGLE CHROME etc. things added fun to internet.....................

Actually i missed out MANY MORE THINGS............... ONLY THE ABOVE SAID EVENTS REMAIN IN MY MEMORY FROM MY SCHOOL DAYS.......................... I HAVE FORGOT MANY MORE THINGS.......................

NOW LET ME EXPLAIN IN SHORT ABOUT INTERNET WORKING:

1} Internet is a global network of computers.

2}Each computer connected to the Internet must have a unique address.

3} Internet addresses are in the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx must be a number from 0 - 255. This address is known as an IP address. (IP stands for Internet Protocol)

4} Computer networking is the connectivity among computers to allow communication between computer systems or devices.

5} A computer network is any set of computers or devices connected to each other with the ability to exchange data. This excahnge of data happens due to the protocal stack Namely TCP/IP.

For example if u say HI from computer with ip 2.222.255.78 TO THE PC WITH IP 255.255.13.0 THEN THIS IS HOW THE PROCESS WORKS:

    HI HI
    ' '
    Transmission protocol Transmission protocol
    ' '
    IP 2.222.255.78 IP 255.255.13.0
    ' '
    HARDWARE___________________________ INTERNET _______________ HARDWARE

THE SAME THING IS NARRATED IN ABOVE DIAGRAMS........

tHIS IS JUST A GLIMPSE OF HOW NET WORKS.................

THERE ARE LOT MORE DATA TO BE GIVEN TO YOU REGARDING NETWORKING INFRASTRUCTURE. NETWORK ROUTING ETC.

once you read this tell me i will further explain about lan wan & man

    hope u will like this
