    Hello friend
MECHANICS IN MATERIALS is a masters degree which should be done after B.E/B.TECH.The following are the further details regarding this course :
    ELIGIBILITY :
    • You should have passed B.E/B.TECH with a minimum of 60%.
    • You should have done B.E/B.TECH in a recognized university.
    DURATION :
    • Since it is a masters course the duration is 2 years.
    ABOUT COURSE/DESCRIPTION OF COURSE :
It provides an introduction to the mechanics of solids with applications to science and engineering. This mostly targets on following features :
    • The Geometry of Motion and Deformation of The Structure and Conditions Of geometric Fit
    • The forces on and within structures and assemblages
    • The physical aspects of the structural system which quantify relations between the forces and motions or deformations.
HOPE THIS GAVE YOU AN IDEA ABOUT THE COURSE....... GOOD LUCK

    Hiii..........
This subject "mechanics of material" or purely "mechanics" teaches you the basic properties of materials.
    It consists of two parts:
    STATICS and DYNAMICS
    The statics contain:
    Forces
    Frames
    Friction
    Lifting machines
    Centroid and moment of inertia
    The dynamics part consist of:
    Linear motion
    Projectile
    Relative velocity
    Impulse momentum
    Impact,circular motion of bodies
    Virtual work
Shear force and bending moment diagram.
Mechanics is a very basic subject and very impotant.
    All the best...

Mechanics of Materials is one of the important subject in Mechanical Engineering. It is divided into two parts-Mechanics of Materials-I and Mechanics of Materials-II which is present in 3rd and 4th semester respectively.
In Mechanics of Materials-I,you will be taught:
1.Introduction to the concept of stress and strain
    2.2-Dimensional Stress
    3.Strain and Deformation
4.Shear force and bending movement diagram.
5.Stress in cylindrical and spherical shells
    6.Bending stress.
    7.Slope and Deflection
8.Stress in shafts subject to torsion
    9.Columns
    10.Stresses under fluctuating loads

In Mechanics of Materials-II,you will be taught:
    1.Strain Energy
    2.Principle of virtual work
    3.Fixed and Continuous Beams
    4.Theories of Failure
    5.Curved Beams
    6.Shear Centre
    7.Unsymmetrical Bending
    8.Engineering Stress Analysis
9.Basic concepts in theory of Elasticity

Re: What will be taught in the subject " Mechanics of Materials"?

Dude mechanics of materials is very much interesting subject to study and learn practical aspect of materials.

First of all be clear that there is no "course" named mechanics of material so i am sure you query is about the particular subject.

Syllabus of this particular subject mainly consist of
    >>LOADING
    >>STRESS STRAIN
    >>FAILURE
    >>DISLOCATIONS
    >>BENDING

NOW this course is taught by many different discipline i.e.
    >>CIVIL ENGG
    >>MECHANICAL ENGG
    >>MATERIAL ENGG
    >>METALLURGY
    >>PHYSICS

the syllabus for all those will be slightly different example :
in case of civil engg it will be more concentrated on bending like that

for your reference I am attaching a syllabus for mechanics of materials of IITR for material engg.
    go through it get acquainted.
