    It seems that you are Interested to become IAS Officer in Future, To become IAS Officer you have to cracked the UPSC Civil services examination. This examination is Conducted every year by UPSC, and the notification will be published every year in the employment newspaper or in the UPSC Website. The Civil Services Examination is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various services like the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service, as well as Group A and Group B Central Services.

    If you are Really Interested in this examination, then you have to work hard daily atleast 4-5 Hours, Only then you will get success in this examination.

    You have to Prepare for this examination as per the Pattern and Syllabus, The syllabus is availiable in the official website of UPSC.

    This examination is Conducted in 2 stages :

    >> Preliminary examination
    >> Main examination.

    You need to cracked the Preliminary examination First, This examination is also called Civil services aptitude test (CSAT) and there are 2 papers in this examination and this is compulsory for all and those who cracked this examination are eligible for Main examination.

    Main examination is Only for those candidates who cracked the Preliminary examination.

    Main examination is Descriptive and there are 9 papers in Main examination, You have to choose the Optional Subjects for Main examination on the basis of Graduation, the List of Optional Subjects is availiable in the official website of UPSC or in the Notification when they declared.

    IAS stands for Indian Administrative officer.Union Public Service commission(UPSC) will hold the IAS exam every year.
    The examination should conducted n 2 phases namely

    • Preliminary examination
    • Min examination..


    After clearing the preliminary examination you are eligible for main examination..

    Eligibility for IAS:

    You must complete your Graduation from any recognized university.
    Your age should not more than 30 years and not less than 21 years.The upper age limit will be applicable for ST/SC/OBC candidates...
    You should be citizen from India..

    Number of attempts:

    4 for General candidates
    7 for OBC candidates
    No limit for ST/SC candidates..

    Age qualifications:

    3 years for OBC candidates
    5 years for ST/Sc candidates
    10 years for PH candidates...


    Examination pattern:

    The Preliminary examination should consist of 2 papers.This is objective type exam.After clearing the preliminary examination you can go for Main examination..

    Syllabus for IAS exam

    IAS exam is conducted by UPSC through Civil Service Exam so if you want to go for IAS exam , you must attend in CSAT exam.

    Those candidate are graduate from any recognized university with any discipline are eligible for IAS exam.IAS exam not require any kind of percentage marks in graduation degree.

    But your age should be in between 21 to 30 years old.Age relaxation is provide for SC/ST/OBC category as per govt rule.

    The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.Also you must be in citizen in India.

    To Become a IAS Officer , you have to clear the Civil Service Examination and this examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission . This year prelims examination was already completed on 20/05/12 . Next announcement will be publish in the month of Feb or March in the official website of UPSC . To join this examination , you must have a passed your degree course from a reputed Institution and Studying in the final year of degree course may also eligible to apply .

    Preliminary/CSAT.
    If we talk about the preliminary examination then,The Preliminary Examination is conducted in the month of May/June every year by the UPSC and it consists of two Objective type (multiple choice questions) papers, as paper I and paper II.The maximum marking of each paper is 200 marks.The syllabus for both the papers are different from each other.

    There is no separate exam for IAS. To become an IAS, you have to appear in civil Service Exm.

    • There is no restriction on percentage for this exam.
    • Your Age must be between 21 to 30 years. (Relaxation given to ST/SC & OBC candidates in upper age limit as per government norms.)
    • You must be an Indian citizen.

    Syllabus for Paper I

    1. Current events of national and international importance.
    2. History of India and Indian National Movement.
    3. Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
    4. Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
    5. Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
    6. General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
    7. General Science.

    Syllabus for Paper II

    1. Comprehension
    2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
    3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
    4. Decision making and problem solving
    5. General mental ability
    6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. -Class X level)
    7. English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).

    Paper - I one of the Indian Languages

    Paper - II English

    Paper - III Essay

    Paper - IV & V General Studies

    Essay (1 paper of 200 marks )
    English (qualifying)(1 paper of 300 marks)
