CPT(Common proficiency test) is the entrance exam which is required to be qualified by a student to enter in this profession.This is the initial step in the process of becoming
a chartered accountant.A student has to qualify this exam if he or she wants to appear for the next level that is IPCC(Integrated Professional Competence Course).

This is an objective examination of 200marks and it consists of 200questions.There are four sections in the exam and there are fifty questions in each section.The four sections
can be listed as follows:-
1)Fundamentals of Accountancy-This section is mainly concerned with testing of your knowledge related to the fundamentals of accountancy.Many questions are asked form
topics such as trial balance, consignee, consignee,ledger accounts,bank reconciliation statement, final accounts of companies, partnership firms, non profit organisations, etc.

2)Economics- This section is primarily concerned with the basics of economics and its related concepts. The questions are asked from topics such as demand, supply,
price mechanism,elasticity of demand, elasticity of supply,role of economics in the development of agriculture,etc. So, you need to develop a clear understanding of
the concepts and definitions of topics related to economics.

3)Mercantile law- This is a subject which is concerned with the basics of contract law, the law related to sales of goods, the law relating to negotiable instruments, etc.The
questions can be easily answered after thoroughly studying and analysing the various provisions of concerned law . Some questions related to case studies relating to some
simple case laws may be asked in the examination.

4)Quantitative aptitude-
This is a section which is mostly concerned with the basics of mathematics and a student must be aware of at least the basic formulas of Maths such as formulas related to
percentage, average,simple or compound interests calculation, probability, profit and loss calculation, etc.Many questions are asked from the basic level and even those students
who have not studied Maths at their higher secondary level can easily qualify the examination.

As far as the books for preparation are concerned, In my opinion and to the best of my knowledge , the books which are provided by the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of India(ICAI) can provide you the best study material for preparation.You can get these books from the institute as and when you would get
registered with the institute for the exam.

And the important point to note is that the Minimum marks to qualify this examination is 100marks.In other words a candidate needs to score at least 50% in the exam to
move to the next level.And there is a provision for negative marking also which is .25 marks for every incorrect answer.So, a student needs to be sure about the answer before
attempting it.The written exam is conducted twice a year in the month of June and December.
For the purpose of registration, you have to fill the form which can be obtained from the branch office of the institute which are located at many places all over
India and along with the form you have to deposit the registration amount which is around 6000rupees.After submitting your form along with the draft(which is required for
