    For becoming an astronaut you need to have completed at least engineering in the field. So for engineering completing 12th standard is a must. You can also go in for diploma course. The same should be from a recognised institute. Also make sure to have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects. During the 12th standard you need to be prepared to appear for the various entrance exams. Ideally try for the IIT's or NIT. For this you need to clear exams like IIT-JEE and AIEEE. After completing engineering you can go in for job like in ISRO. You can also go in for a Masters course in India or abroad. You need to be well focussed on what you would like to achieve.

    Re: What should I study after 10th standard to become an astronaut?

    You can pursue an Engineering Degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical. So you can select your plus two in science with subject physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. A student with aggregate mark 65% and above can apply for the Common Entrance test conducted for the admission purpose for the course. Some of the prominent entrance examinations are IIT-JEE, AIEEE, and other state level examinations. In India, the Indian Institutes of Technology, Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology, Nehru College of Aeronautics & Applied Science etc. are the prominent colleges in the field. The common entrance test for the engineering graduate is comparatively tough. So one should practice for the exam during their class 11th and 12th. If in case you canít get through with the entrance exam you can pursue a degree course either in biological science, physical science or mathematics. After that you can apply to various test conducted by ISRO, NASA etc.

    Maintain an excellent academic record in your undergraduate and graduate studies. Many astronauts have doctoral degrees.
    Choose a scientific field for your bachelor's degree that you can use if you become an astronaut. Possibilities include medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, aerospace engineering and mathematics.
    Make certain you have at least 3 years of work experience in your field before applying as a mission specialist. An acceptable substitution might be a 2-year graduate degree with 1 year of experience....

    Hello Friend

    To become an Astronaut first you must complete your intermediate with MPC group with 90%.

    next you must write the entrance exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE, BITSAT, VIT.

    but you must get the top rank in any of the above entrance exam. then only you can get aeronautical engineering.

    after completing your b.tech you must write ISRO, DRDO etc and get a good rank then by your performance in the job you can become an astronaut.

    For becoming an astronaut, you will have to pass +2(non-medical) with good percentage.
    After that you will have to appear in AIEEE exam, and on the basis of AIEEE rank you will get admission in some good engineering college.
    You need to have good rank in AIEE to get seat in top engineering colleges like IIT 's , NIT 's etc
    The cut-off list of these colleges is too high, so you nedt o work hard.
    After you get admission in some good govt. engineering college you will have to select the desired branch.

    Best of luck

    Dear brother,
    If you want to become an astronaut, then you must study astronomy related courses in inter. Astronomy deals with the universe, and its motion principles and related things.
    Astronomy became the special subject now a days because of the latest technology.
    The legends like newton, gelelio, aryabhatta ,bhaskara etc. People Had put their effort on astronomy only.

    Qualifications :
    1. Students from maths , physics departments can do astronomy
    2. Who did the engineering from electrical/electronics /communications can do it from appearing in IIT-JEE.
    Through " joint entrance screening test " (jest )You can join in 'Joint astronomy program' which is conducted by Indian institute of science(IISC).
    After 1yr.training they can do ph.d in the reputed companies which ever the students prefer.
    If you maintain min. 60% in inter then it would be better.
    The following are the some which provide astromy:
    1. Indian institute of astrophysics, Hanley observatory (bangalore and kodaikenal)
    2. Inter university center for astromy and astrophysics,PUNE
    3.National centre for radio astro physics,PUNE
    4.Physical research lab,AHMEDABAD
    5. Raman research institute,BANGALORE.
    6.TATA INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH,MUMBAI.
    I hope your doubts are clarified totally now.
    All the best brother...

    Re: What should I study after 10th standard to become an astronaut?

    To become an astronomer in NASA usual educational requirement is a doctoral degree, since most of the work tends to be related to research and development.

    As you have done BE in electrical and electronics engineering you can make a career in Instrumentation/ Experimental Astronomy as eligibility for the same is :-
    After 10 plus two you have to go for Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electrical / Electronics/ Electrical Communications. An engineer with a B. Tech or BE degree could also enter the field as a research scholar.

    Entrance exam :-
    For doing Ph.D, which is mandatory to do research, you should have to appear for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) examination.

    Special skill need to become an Astronaut :-
    1) curiosity, enthusiasm and greater concentration
    2) Brain should be above average intelligence, high imagination, persistence, problem-solving and analytical skills and must possess both mathematical and computer skills.
    3) Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    Syllabus for JEST :-
    see attached file jest_syllabus.txt.

    Colleges provide Ph.D program :-
    1) Harish Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad
    2) Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad
    3) Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore
    4) Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences( ARIES), Nainital.

    Hi friend.....

    * I appreciate you and your idea to become an astronaut.an astronaut is the one who drives the universe with satellites.

    *An astronaut is one who is given training by the spaceflight program to work as the team in a space craft

    * They travel to space where they conduct and do experiments on satellites.

    You should Qualify some exams like

    *Candidates who wish to become Astronauts needs to have a Bachelorís degree in
    -->biological science
    -->engineering
    -->mathematics or physical science

    They should have a degrees from reputed institutes like IISC or IIT.

    Some options for you to opt

    -->PhD (Astrophysics).
    -->PhD (Geophysics).
    -->PhD (Metaphysics).

    *After completing graduation, the candidates can appear for the entrance exam which is held by the NASA for the recruitment of Scientists, Astronauts etc.

    *There are many openings in ISRO which is conducted for the recruitment of Scientists and Engineers.

    *In order to join the ISRO, the candidates need to clear the Joint Entrance Exam set by the IITís

    Eligiblility to apply

    *Citizenship:

    --> candidates who are joining the ISRO need to be Indian citizens

    *Age limit

    -->He/she should be 21 years at the time of joining. The age limit is relaxable for candidates belonging to the SC/ST category.

    *Qualification

    -->candidates need to be Graduates from a recognized board or university.

    *Making your dream to become an astronaut is not easy,you should have to workhard and you should keep your tough times to that.

    Tips to Prepare for exam and interview

    -->Candidates need to pass the screening test first

    -->They should submit the application form online

    -->Next you need to undergo tests in professional and psychological aptitude assessment which includes behavioral and logical skills.

    -->After that you will go through a Medical evaluation.

    *There will be a tough competition between the candidates .Short listed candidates will be selected from the entrance examinations conducted by them

    *So you need to be prepared for the toughest competition.

    good luck

    all the best
