Since you had completed your Diploma,so you can apply for direct admission to second year of Engineering on the basis of Lateral entry test. But for appearing in the Lateral entry test you must have to fulfill the eligibility conditions. The eligibility conditions for Lateral entry test are:

-You must have completed your Diploma from a recognized Institute or any State Board of Technical Education.
-You must have cleared your Diploma with minimum 60% marks.
-You must not have any backlogs left in the Diploma course.

After fulfilling the above conditions you will be eligible for Lateral entry test.On the basis of your rank in the test you will be assigned college. The higher rank you will score in the test, the better college you will get.As you asked about selecting your branch in B.E., I would suggest you to choose Mechanical branch as you have completed Diploma in Mechanical. You had almost studied all the basic subjects of Mechanical Engineering in your Diploma,so B.E. would be more easy and interesting for you.It will make you perfect in your branch and you will be more preferred by companies during Job Placements.

After completing diploma you can take direct admission in B.Tech second year
    You need to have:
atleast 60% marks in diploma for becoming eligible for entry test

You will have to give the Lateral Entry Test(LEET) to take direct admission in B.tech second year.
LEET is based on your diploma and is necessary for diploma holders for taking direct admission in B.Tech second year.

and you should not have any backlog pending in diploma, if there is any, you need to clear it first to become eligible for LEET
You have done diploma in mechanical, it will be better if you select mechanical in B.tech.
If you want to change the branch you can switch to computer science.
You will have to fill the trade change form to change your trade.

    Best of luck

You can select any trade according to your interest.
But,as you have done Diploma in Mechanical Engineering,so I would suggest you to choose Mechanical stream in B.E.
As you have done Diploma, you will directly get admission to second year of B.E. through Lateral entry exam.
In your Diploma, you had already studied all the basic subjects of Engineering.
So,you will not face any difficulty in Engineering degree, rather it will be more easy to you.

After your diploma in mechanics field you will have to select mechanic stream in BE.
As you have done diploma in mechanical and have knowledge about that subject so you get advantage of it in your further studies.
So donot confuse towards taking any other trade,
    just go for Mechanics only.
For diploma students the colleges keep 15 % seats reserved for admission in Engineering for diploma students.
Through lateral entry examination you will get admission direct in 2nd year of B.tech.
    Thanks
