The aspirant should meet certain eligibility conditions to get in to Indian Navy. They should have passed intermediate from a reputed institution. The qualification must be obtained with science as the main subject and with 60% marks. The age of the candidate must be with in 16.5-19 years. The nationality of the candidate must be Indian. NDA(National Defense Academy)

To Join the Indian Navy you need to appear for the NDA(National Defense Academy) exam that is conducted by UPSC twice a year. The Notifications about the Exam is given in the employment newspapers or is updated in official portal of UPSC.



You must complete your 12th standard from a recognized board from any discipline to get into the Army wing. So get into the Naval and air force wings you need to complete your 12th with science and maths as your discipline. Your age must be 16.5 to 19 years. even if you have appeared for your 12 final Examinations you are eligible to appear for the examination.

Only Male Candidates are allowed to appear for the examination , female candidates are not allowed to appear. You must be Unmarried.

You must be a citizen of India (or) a Subject of Bhutan (or) a Subject of Nepal (or) a Tibetian Refugee. NRI's are allowed to appear for the Examinations only if they have a valid passport. Foreign Nationalities are not allowed.

You need to have a Good Eye sight and must be Physically fit.

The Selection criteria is based on Written, Medical test and personal Interviews. the main exam is divided into General Ability and Mathematics and the Duration of the Exam is 2 hours 30 min.

the General Ability is divided into 6 parts:

>> Chemistry
>> current events
>> General Science
>> Geography
>> History
>> Physics

Paper I will carry 200 marks and Paper II will carry 600 Marks. Negative Marks will be given to all the Wrong answers so be careful in marking the answers.

CDS Examination:



The CDS Exam is also conducted by UPSC twice a year. To apply for the Combined Defense Service exam you need You must be a citizen of India (or) a Subject of Bhutan (or) a Subject of Nepal (or) a Tibetian Refugee.

Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1988 and not later than 1st January, 1994 only are eligible For the Army wing..

Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1991 ( 2nd January, 1989 in case of NCC Naval Wing ‘C’ Certificate holders ) and not later than 1st January, 1994 only are eligible for the Naval Wing.

Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1990 and not later than 1st January, 1994 only are eligible for Air force Wing .

You need to be a Graduate from a recognized university(With Science and Maths in 10+2) to Get into Air force Wing .

You must at least complete 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics for Navy.

The most aspiring option to join to Navy would be to compete for the NDA and NAVAL Academy exam conducted by UPSC.
You should be 15 to 18 years old to be eligible for this exam.

There are other options also available to join Indian Navy like SSC but for that you have to be Graduate with Science and Engineering.

To join in Merchant Navy, you have to appear and qualify UPSC exam.The criteria to attain in the UPSC exam is -

Minimum graduation and qualification with 55% marks.
and age, limit you have to be between 21-29 years.

You can join Indian Navy after passing the 12th with physics and Maths.

N.D.A is an Exam conducted by U.P.S.C twice in a year.
If you want to join you have to qualify the N.D.A entrance exam.

N.D.A EXAM ELIGIBILITY:-
> Pass 12th with any stream like Science, Commerce and Arts from recognized University or board.
> Your age should be in between 16.5-19 year.
> You must be citizen of India.
> You should be medically fit(No major surgery in your body).
> NO relaxation for ST/SC candidate.

Indian navy is the most fascinating branch of the Indian armed forces. It is the main force behind the protection against the border threats and also strengthening the international relationships too.


You can go for the Indian navy through either of the two ways:

1. NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY EXAM


This exam is open for the 12th passed candidates only to enter in to the Indian defence sector. The exam is conducted twice a year and following are the eligibility conditions to go for the exam:
>>you have to be a male unmarried candidate
>>you have to be 16.5 to 19 years of age
>>you have to be 12th passed science with maths background candidate with atleast 60% marks.

The other way to enter in to the Indian navy is after the graduation: The combined defence services exam:


You have to apply for the Indian naval academy of the Indian defence to enter as a deck cadet or the leutenant in the Indian navy.
For that you have to be a graduate in any stream of engineering. Also you must be a male unmaried candidate with 19 to 23 years of age.

So if you are a female then you cannot go for the Indian navy through the NDA or the CDS but you can go for the army wing only through the CDS.

To join in Indian Navy,you should appear for NDA exam,if you have complete 12th class with PCM stream from a recognized university and your age is between 16 1/2 to 19 years.

If you have complete graduation degree in Engineering from a recognized university and your age is between 19 to 21 years,then you should appear for CDS exam to join in Indian Navy.

NDA exam notification will release in the month of December and May month every year.And exam will held on April and August month every year respectively.

CDS exam notification will release in the month of November and June month every year.And exam will held on February and September month every year respectively.

If your interested to become an Indian Navy Officer after completing 12th standard , then you may apply for NDA Examination . If your qualified in this Examination then you having chance to get Navy officer job .

NDA stands for National Defence Academy . It is one of the defence Entrance Examination which is conducted by UPSC ( Union Public Service Commission ) for every twice in a year . NDA having three wings namely , Army academy , Navy Academy , and Airforce Academy .

To join Indian navy:-
Career in Merchant Navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly two specialized fields, i.e. Marine Engineering and Nautical (deck).

you are a class 10th passed student. If it is so then you can join merchent navy as rating officer & following courses are available to you:

4 month Pre-Sea Course for General Purpose (GP) rating.

3 month Pre-Sea Course for Deck rating.

3 month Pre-Sea Course for Engine rating.

4 month Pre-Sea Course for Saloon rating.

you can join Indian Navy after completing your 12th exams. But you have to appear in entrance exam.

If you want to join Indian Navy after 12th then you have to appear in NDA examination conducted by UPSC twice a year.
