hello friend its is very easy just in case of , offline application form you need to fill up the application form and put DD and post to the relevant address.
In the online application you need to enter the number and post it.

Ans:

** GATE can be applied in two ways
1.Offline
2.Online

>>Offline:

**In offline you should not need to take a DD instead you can bye a application from bank paying 1000/- and filling chalan,

>>Online

** While you are applying GATE through online you can pay fee in two ways
a) through debit/ credit card
b) through DD

** Online exam fee will be 900/-

** When you use your credit/ debit card to pay the fee, you need to enter card no. and other details

** When you are paying money through DD, you have to take DD from any nationalized bank in the favor of respective IIT principal

** After that you will asked to enter a DD no. while applying ONLINE form

**After ONLINE application procedure completed take a print out and add DD to it, if any enclosures are necessary like OBC certificate attach them too and post it to corresponding IIT

** With this your application procedure will be end
