In order to become an IPS officer, you should attend the Civil services exams. This exam is conducted by UPSC in India. The basic qualification necessary for attending this exam is a graduation. The graduation should be secured in any subject area and also from a recognized university or institute. The final year graduates are also eligible to attend the IPS exam. But it is essential that they should submit the proof of their qualification while submitting the application forms. The selection will be based on written examination. If you clear the written test stage, you have to undergo a physical test along with a personal interview round. The notifications regarding the civil service exams will be published in the official website of UPSC which you can refer for complete details.

Re: What is the procedure to become an IPS officer?

Civil services is one of the most reputed examinations of the country and every year lakhs of students appear for this examination.
The procedure to become a civil servant or an IPS(Indian police services) officer can be explained as follows:
    1)Preliminary examinations-
This is the first level. This is an objective examination where you would be required to answer multiple choice questions.
This examination is common for all the students who have applied for the civil services exam.

    2)Mains exams-
This is the second level and you can appear for this exam only if you have cleared the initial level.
You have to choose two papers and one language papers for the exam.Generally students select
subjects that they have already during graduation as they are more comfortable with the subjects that
they have already studied during graduation.

    3)Personal interview-
This is the most important and the most crucial stage of the whole procedure.
