Re: What is the procedure to become IAS officer after completing 12th(Science)?

the procedure to go about for IAS is the same for the students from science/ commerce/ arts, etc backgrounds.
To get into an IAS you need to get through a common exam- the UPSC held Civil Services Examination. Students graduated from Indian universities, deemed universities or with other equivalent degrees are eligible for the examination. Students in their final years of graduation can also appear for the entrance. The candidate of general category must be in between 21 to 30 years of age, while others have their respective age limit relaxations such as 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates. There are 2 phases of the examination – the preliminary exam and the main exam. Clearing the former will make one eligible to take the latter. The preliminary exam is usually held in May/June and the main exam is held in Oct/Nov. Notification of the exam is published every year during December. Open category candidates can give the exam 4 times i.e, using 4 years, OBC candidates can take the exam 7 times and there is no restriction on the number of attempts by the SC/ST candidates.
Preliminary exam comprises 2 papers: General studies and any optional subject. General studies talk about Indian Politics, Economics, History, World Geography, Current Affairs Worldwide and Statistics. The optional subject can also be something that you have studied in your graduation.
Getting through the prelims take you to the main examination consisting 9 papers dealing with English, Essay Writing, General Studies and some Optional Subjects. If you clear the mains, you can appear for the interviews and if passed, you get selected.
