    What is the procedure for an Army Officer to become an IPS officer?

    hello sir/madam
    i am a major in the army. what is the procedure for an army officer to become an IPS officer?

    To become an Army officer or an IPS officer you must be a graduate from any recognized college or have done equivalent course.
    2.you should be aged between 21-30 years
    3you should be citizen of india
    after your graduation you must appear for the upsc exams from which you can be eligible to to be an officer.
    The UPSC exams for civils start from the month of march and for NDA it comes twice in a row.

    Dear friend,
    First of all if you are a army officer then why are you switching your job profile.But if you want then you have resign from your post and have appear for CSAT exam conducted by UPSC every year.

    Being a defense person you will get 5 yrs relaxation in age criteria.


    For IPS you have to select two subjects which you like the most,among the subjects list specified by UPSC.
    You have to prepare two subjects very deeply.other than that you have to prepare for general knowledge,aptitude,logical reasoning for Pre exam.

    Eligibility for CSAT:

    1.You must be at least 21 years of age at the time of filling the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam form and not more than 30 years of age,33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs

    2.Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs.

    3.Candidate should have a graduate degree from any college which is recognized by UGC, or possess an equivalent qualification.

    4.If you are in the final semester or have taken their final degree exam but are awaiting the results can also appear for the IPS Preliminary examination provided they furnish their proof of degree while filling the Mains form.


    Procedure is follows:

    1.In pre exam two papers will be there,each of two hours a) General studies and b)Optional subject.Objective type questions will be asked.

    2.Main paper comprises of 9 papers,each of three hours.One of the Indian languages,2 papers on general studies ,2 papers on option-1 and 2 papers on optional-2.

    3. In the end interview will be there.

    4.Merit list will be out.

    Important dates:

    1.The prelims will be held around May-June.

    2.The main written examination usually takes place in Oct-Nov.

    3.Interview will take place in the month of April-May.

    As you are a army personal then there should be no problem in physical examination.

    The Process for Army Candidates to Apply for IPS Officer was same as General Members.

    If you are already in Army and Interested to apply for the UPSC Civil services examination to become IAS Officer then You need to complete your Graduate degree course in any discipline from a recognised University.

    >> So, If you have completed your Graduation degree course in any discipline form a recognised University then you are eligible to apply for UPSC Civil services examination, This examination was Conducted by UPSC Every year, The examination was Held in Two Stages - preliminary examination and Main examination.

    Preliminary examination are also Known as CSAT Examination (Civil services aptitude test).

    >> This examination was Objective and there are Two papers in this examination and Both are of Same marks and Duration. Those who cracked the Preliminary examination are eligible to sit in Main examination, But in Main examination you need to choose the Optional Subjects according to your Interest.

    If you are already in Army then you have not to reveled that you are in army, Just apply for this examination on the basis of Graduation, To apply for this examination your age should between 21 to 30 years, Upper age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC Candidates. There are 5 Year relaxation is applicable for SC/ST Candidate and 3 Year Relaxation is applicable for OBC Candidates.

    >> So, If you have completed your Graduation and Really Interested to become IPS Officer then please apply for the UPSC Civil services examination 2012.

    The dates and schedule for Next year UPSC Civil services examination was already updated in the official website, the Notification was Going to be Published in the Month of February I.e 04/Feb/2012.

    The Notification was Published in the employment Newspaper OR in the UPSC website in the Month Of February. The Last date of apply for this examination was 05/march/2012. The written examination was Going to be held on 20/May/2012.

    So Please wait for the Notification and then apply for this examination Online, Eligible candidates may fill the application form Online by visit the Official website, Otherwise you can also Obtained the application form directly from the Post Offices in India.

    Yes , You are eligible for IPS officer exam but you must fulfill the below given criteria.

    IPS exam is conducted by UPSC. There are some criteria you have to follow for appearing in IPS exam.

    Those candidate have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized university are eligible for IPS exam.
    But your age should be in between 21-30years for general candidate.

    In IPS exam their is provide age relaxation for OBC candidate is 3years and for SC/ST candidate is 5 years.

    The maximum attempts for Sc/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

    Also you must be citizen of India.


    PROCESS BECOME A IPS OFFICER:-


    1. Fill up the Application form.
    2.Preliminary exam is consist of two papers.
    a) General studies -----150 marks
    b)From Optional subject -------300 marks
    3.If you have qualify in Preliminary exam then you have to go for IPS mains exam
    4.After completion of your main exam you have to go for Interview.

    EXAM DATE:-

    Notification Date - 04/02/2012
    Last date of application - 05/03/2012
    Preliminary examination - 20/05/2012.

    Below are the steps to become an IPS officer:

    For becoming IPS officer, the way to enter this competitive job is through giving UPSC entrance exams.

    Before going for IPS, you should prepare hard enough to get well-versed with the paper pattern so that you can perform well.

    Application forms for IPS can be obtained from Head Post Offices or any recognized post office.

    IPS examinations consists of two steps-first one is prelims and the second one is mains.

    Paper pattern for prelims:

    1. Optional Subjects (300 marks):

    2. General Studies (150 marks):

    Paper pattern for mains:

    In mains, one has to appear for 9 papers.
