    Hiii
Let me tell you mechanical engineering is really an unique branch in engineering. It has vast career opportunities but why are you thinking in different field. Not only mech any branch students can apply for govt jobs.

Inorder to get into govt sector you need to gain minimum of 60%cutoff. But if you want become mechanical engineer then it varies from company to company. But every company demands a minimum of 65% cut off.so try to get minimum of 65% cut off.
    Good luck..

You need to maintain an aggregate of min 65 or 65+ for entering into govt sectors .
In railway dept also the same rules you must have 65 or 65+ for appearing in the entrance exam .
There should't be any backlogs .

For recruitment of Mechanical Engineers to the railways, 50 per cent of the candidates are recruited through the Combined Engineering Services Examination.
The remaining 50 per cent are recruited as the Special Class Railway Apprentices for which the U.P.S.C. conducts a separate competitive examination every year.

Age limit is between 20-37yrs and there will be a training of 1yr.

Re: What is the minimum required percentage for a B.Tech Mech Student to get as Engineer job in Railway department?

    Dear friend.
Indian Railways Network is the largest one in Asia and the second largest in the world powered and controlled by a single government or board. The jobs in Indian Railways that is why are excellent and vast.
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) recruits the people or the candidates for the various posts in the Indian Railways based on their qualification.
Also the SCRA exam is also conducted every year for the jobs in the Indian Railways. The Indian Engineering services is another exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission for good career in the Indian departments, railways, roadways, civils, etc..for the engineers.
The various posts for the engineers in the Indian Railways include: junior executive, junction master, senior executive, main engineer, assistant engineer, travel and tourism manager, scientific officer, head technician,etc..for the b.tech or B.E machenical, electrical and ECE.

All these exams donot require any particular minimum percentage criteria in the engineering degree or technology degree. All you need is to just pass. But let me tell you that the best percentage getters and the good academic oriented candidates have more chance to get into the Indian railway as in the Interview your academic performance is the main criteria for selection.
So get as many good marks and percentage as you can but according to me minimum it should be atleast 70% so as to get a good post. Otherwise just 60% is also enough or the minimum one.

    : :GOOD LUCK: :

    Hiiiiiiiiii,

For Engineers there are lot of vacancies in Railway department.
Only for the branch of CSE the opportunities for Railway department are less.
You need to get 60%+ in your B.Tech.And you need to write the RRB(Railway Recruitment Board).
Based on that you are going to enter into that DEPARTMENT.

    Thank you
