Eligibility norm for the Merchant Navy:-

1)Candidate should have Indian nationality.

2)Their age must be between 18-42 yrs on 25.02.11

3)should have Graduate from any recognize university.

4)The employed person who is working in central govt. /own business/private sector/semi govt. must have Pay and allowances and privileges.


For Merchant Navy the Selection Procedure:-

1. Preliminary Interview Boards held at respective TA Group Headquarters .

A. In order to become an Engineer or Executive in Naval Architecture:

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Candidate must have Maths and Physics as subjects in 10+2 and passes this with minimum 55% marks.

2. Age limit should be between 16.5-19 years

3. Only male candidates can apply.

B. In order to become an Artificier Apprentice:

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Candidate must have Maths and Physics as subjects in 10+2 and passes this with minimum 55% marks.

2. Age limit should be between 17-20 years

C. For Senior Secondary recruit:

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Candidate must have Maths and Physics as subjects in 10+2 and passes this with minimum 55% marks.

2. Age limit should be between 17-21 years

You may join merchant Navy after your engineering course or graduation in nautical science. You have to appear in the entrance exam of CDS i.e. Common Defense Services.

CDS is the best one for those who wants to be the part of Indian Defense. CDS stands for Combined Defense Service. This exam is conducted by the UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) twice a year.

Hi aspirant,

It is very good to say that you are eligible to join Merchant after completing your diploma. A career in Merchant Navy is full of adventure which is the reason behind its demand. There are various institutes in India which conducts various course related to merchant navy.

You can get admission directly through IITJEE or else you can go for the lateral entry option but by this you will not be able to join any of the IITs or most of the government institutes. The most famous of all the institute for Merchant navy is T.S. Chanakya.
