Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete their B.Sc. degree in mechanical or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. In some cases, students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets.

No, you can't join in Merchant navy after completing 12th class in Commerce . Because you have to complete 12th class exam with science for being eligible for Merchant navy .

Eligibility FOR Merchant navy

Unmarried male and female Students are eligible for Merchant Navy course.

No.....with the commerce background you are not eligible for merchant navy.

After 12th you can go for merchant navy in 2 ways namely

• Deck Cadets
• Navigating officers.

Eligibility for Merchant navy:

You must complete your 12th with Physics,chemistry,Mathematics for being eligible for merchant Navy.
Your age should not more than 20 years.
For ST/SC candidates the age should be 25 years.
Only Unmarried male and female students are only eligible.

So with commerce background you are not eligible for merchant navy.
