    Dear friend,

    Master of Arts in geography is one of the finest courses offered by Jawahar Lal Nehru University. The Jawaharlal Nehru University conducts its own entrance examination for admission of candidates to MA course in Geography. In order to appear for the entrance exam it is necessary that you have completed your bachelor's degree course in any stream from a recognized university. The entrance exam is divided into two parts:- Objective exam and subjective exam.

    Exam Pattern:-

    The objective type questions are divided into IV units.

    The 1st Unit is based on the general principles of physical, human and regional geography.

    The 2nd Unit comprises of 1) The principles of geomorphology, climatology, oceanography and biogeography, 2) The Principles of human geography, economic geography, population geography and human settlements, 3) The Regional geography of India-like the physiographic divisions, patterns and levels of development of agriculture and industries, the growth of population and urbanization.

    Unit 3 deals with the Principles of Cartography- Scales and map projections: Topographical maps of India.

    Unit 4 is about Statistical Methods- frequency distribution; graphical representations; measures of central tendencies dispersion etc. The theory paper is about the principles in human geography,
    oceanography, topography and climatology.

    Eligibility Criteria:-

    In order to join Master of Arts course in Geography you must have completed your Bachelor's degree course in any stream from a recognized university. You should have scored atleast 45% marks in Graduation.

    Exam Syllabus:-

    Unit I (60 marks)
    Multiple Choice Questions on:
    1. Geomorphology, climatology, oceanography and biogeography.
    2. Human geography, economic geography, population geography, human ecology and
    human settlements.
    3. Regional geography of India - physiographic divisions, patterns and levels of
    development of agriculture and industries, growth of population and urbanisation.
    4. Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing.

    Unit II (20 marks)
    Short Answer Question on: Physical, human, regional geography and geography of
    India.

    Unit III ( 10 marks)
    Question/Questions on Cartography - scales and map projections, topographical maps of
    India.

    Unit IV (10 marks)
    Question/Questions on: Statistical Methods - frequency distribution, graphical
    representations; measures of central tendency and dispersion.
