    The Indian Foreign Service(IFS) exam is the civils exam conducted by the UPSC board and there will be much syllabus to study for this examination so it can be of General knowledge,Current Affairs, indian economy,geography,history,general science etc are main subjects for the IFS examination and it will be held in two stages Prelims and mains the candidate who qualifies in both will be selected as the IFS officer.

    IFS -Indian Foreign Service.

    IFS is conducted by Union Public Service Commission Of India.

    IFS Exam Pattern :


    All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) .

    It comprises of two stages:

    1)Preliminary Examination

    2)Main Examination


    Preliminary Examination:

    >> It is of objective type, which is a qualifying examination.

    Main Examination:
    >>It consists of written examination and interview.

    >>The Preliminary Examination is held in May/June and the Main Examination in October/November.

    >>You must begin preparations of the main exam along with preliminary exam. This is because there is little time for the Main exam if you waits for the results of the Preliminaries.



    Eligibility Criteria :


    Age limit:
    >>Your age must be 21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs .

    >>Ex-servicemen will get 5 more years exemption from the prescribed age limit The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University, which extract must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate.

    Number of Attempts:

    >>4 attempts for OC,
    >>7 for OBCs and
    >>No limit for SCs/STs.

    >>If you appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

    Restrictions On Applying For The Examination:

    >>If you appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this examination.

    The Indian Foreign Service is part of the Central Civil Services of the Government of India.The Foreign Secretary of India is the administrative head of the Indian Foreign Service.IFS actually belongs to Grade A and Grade B of the Central Civil Services of the executive branch of the Government of India.

    IFS officers are selected through Civil service examination which has three stages
    Stage-1:Civil service aptitude test(CSAT)
    Stage-2:mains exam and
    Stage-3:Interview


    Stage-1 Examination pattern:

    Paper-I : On current affairs,history,geography etc.Carry 200 marks(2 hrs.)

    Paper-II: Based on Aptitude test Carry 200 marks(2 hrs.)

    Stage-2 Examination pattern:

    Paper-I : One of the Indian Languages to be selected by the candidate from the 18 languages
    included in the VIIIth Schedule to the Constitution (Qualifying Paper) (carry 300 marks)

    Paper-II : English (Qualifying Paper) (carries 300 marks)

    Paper-III: Essay (carries 200 marks)

    Paper-Iv&v: General studies (carries 600 marks)

    Papers VI
    VII,VIII & IX : Any two subjects (each having 2 papers) to be selected from the prescribed
    optional subjects (300 marks for each paper) (carries 1200 marks)

    Total on written examination 2000 marks
    Interview test 300 marks
    Grand Total 2300 marks

    ** IFS administers the abroad missions and officers may be posted to any of 160 indian embassies abroad.

    Hello Friend

    IFS ( Indian Foreign Service ) is one of the All India services and was formed in the year 1946. The cadre controlling authority for IFS is Foreign Secretary.

    As a career Diplomat Foreign Secretary is required to project the India's interests both at home and abroad on a wide variety of issues which includes bilateral Political and Economic cooperation, Trade and Investment promotion, Cultural interaction, Press and Media liaison as well as different multilateral issues.

    Ministry of External Affairs is all responsible for all aspects of external relations, Territorial divisions deal with bilateral political and economic work while function divisions look after Policy planning, Multilateral organizations, etc.

    UPSC ( Union Public Service Commission ) conducts the common written exam and Interview for the selection into different Civil service cadre's and based upon your marks secured you can join in Indian Foreign Service.

    The selection is mainly based on

    1. Preliminary
    2. Main's
    3. Interview


    Dude the Examination pattern will be same for all the Civil services examination and after your selection process is completed you will be having training at 2 stages

    Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration - Massouri and then at
    Foreign Service Institute - Delhi.


    Examination pattern :

    Preliminary : It consists of 2 papers

    Paper I : 200 marks

    syllabus : Current events, History of India and India National Movement, Indian Polity, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology.

    Paper II : 200 marks

    syllabus : Comprehension, Interpersonal skills, Logical Reasoning and Analytical ability, General Mental ability, Basic Numerals, English language.

    Both the papers will be objective type and it is English and Hindi language, some are specifically in English to test your comprehensive and English skills.

    Main's :

    Paper I : 300 marks - one of the Indian languages chosen from the prescribed list
    Paper II : 300 marks - English
    Paper III : 300 marks - Essay
    Paper IV : 300 marks - Optional subject I
    Paper V : 300 marks - Optional subject II
    Paper VI : 300 marks - Optional subject II

    The test on Indian languages will be at Matriculation level and it is important for ranking purpose and it is compulsory for the exam.

    UPSC conducts the Indian Forest Service Exam every year for recruiting officers for the Indian Forest Service.

    Pattern of examination:

    Written Examination - Conventional (essay) type
    Paper I - General English 300 Marks
    Paper II - General Knowledge 300 Marks
    Paper III, IV, V & VI - Any two subjects to be selected from optional subjects . Each subject will have two papers. 800 Marks
    Total marks for written examination 1400 Marks

    * IFS Stands for Indian Foreign Service.

    * IFS exam is conducted by UPSC.

    * The examination consists of two types :

    a) preliminary examination which is conducted in the month of may/june.

    b) mains examination , which is conducted in th month of november/december.

    Eligibility criteria :

    1) Your age must lie in between 21 and 30 years.
    2) you have only 4 attempts to appear in the examination.
