    Deck Officer mainly look after the ships navigation, loading/unloading of cargo and the general maintenance and administration of the ship.

    For steeping a career in Merchant navy candidate have to join in the rank of 3rd officer and is subsequently promoted to the rank of 2nd officer, Chief Officer and finally the Master of the ship as per organizational competency rule

    Various courses after 10+2 level :-
    • 3 year degree course in Nautical Science for (10+2) students.
    • 3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students.
    Eligibility Criteria :-
    • The minimum eligibility for courses in Nautical science and Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination.

    • Candidate must have passed 10+2 from physics, chemistry and mathematics subjects.

    • Eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness.

    • He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms

    Selection Procedure :-
    • Through the Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
    • Candidates are selected for the B.Sc. Nautical Science degree of TS Chanakya, Mumbai and
    • Four-year Marine Engineering degree course at Marine Engineering Research Institute, in Calcutta and Mumbai.

    To join in the Merchant Navy the candidate must finish the Any one of the following courses.:

    1) 3 year degree course in nautical science(for 10 +2 students)
    2) 4 years degree course in marine engineering( for 10th +2 Students)
    3) 2 years of the diploma holder
    4) 1 year of course of graduate mechanical engineer
    5) 3 month course of decks cadets( for 10 +2 students)

    To join as a deck candidate it is a must that the candidate should have completed 12th standard or equivalent. The course should be pursued from a recognised institute. Only candidates with science background are allowed to apply. Physics, Chemistry and also Maths should be amongst the subjects studied. Normally a minimum of 55% in these subjects is a must. Also they will need to clear the entrance exam based on the institute that they plan to join. Since you are from the commerce background you will not be eligible to apply for the same.

    THE ELIGIBILITY SAYS:
    1) You should have completed +2 with maths , physics, chemistry
    2) appear in the IIT-JEE exam and joina merchant navy institute for a bachelor course in marinme engineering to enter as a junior engineer.
    3) appear in the IIT-JEE eaxm and do B.SC IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE
    3) appear in the IIT-JEE and any engineer coures.

    THE COURSES FOR MERCHANT NAVY. COURSES Career in merchant navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly twospecialized field. i.e Marine Engineering and Nautical.

    To become a seafare, following stream of entries ( Pre -sea course) are available to India citizen in the government as well as in private training institution ( recognized and approved by director general of shipping, Ministry of Shipping).

    OFFICERS

    1) 3 years degree course in nautical Science for ( 10+2) student.
    2) 4 years degree course in Marine Engineering for (10+2) student.
    3) 2 years course for diploma holders.
    4) 1 year course for graduate mechanical Engineers.
    5) 3 month course for Deck cadets for ( 10+2) student.

    RATING ( ENTRY STANDARD Xth )


    1) 4 month pre -sea course for general purpose.
    2) 3 month pre-sea course for Deck rating.
    3) 3 month pre-sea course for Engine rating.
    4) 4 month pre-sea course for saloon rating.

    In addition, a candidate can join as utility hand or petty officers after completing 4 basic course,i.e F.P.F.F, E.F.A , AND P.S.T. GOVT. training institutes: there are 4 govt. trainng institutes providing pre-sea and post-sea training of international standard:

    1) Training ship Chanakya, Navi Mumbai.
    2) Marine Engineering & Research Institute ( M.E.R.I ), Kolkata.
    3) Marine Engineering & Research Institute ( M.E.R.I ), Mumbai.
    4) lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies And Research, Mumbai. [/B][/SIZE]

    There are many courses after the 12th with this percentage. your percentage should be 60% above to get entrance in the following exams.

    In the following are some courses you can choose any one for your future interests.

    1) B.TECH
    2) B.SC
    3) B.C.A
    4) HOTEL MANAGEMENT

    6) N.D.A
    7)NIIT COURSE.

    B.SC science - instrumentation the scope in vast. Students in our country are best when it come to natural talent.     THE NAVAL MARITIME ACADEMY is recruiting candidates for the deck cadets and the eligibility conditions are:

    (a)10+2 pass certificate or equivalent examination with not less than 60% in PCM and 55% in English. Age less than 20 years on 01 Aug 2010.

    Or B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as an individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year. Age less than 22 yrs as on 01 Aug 2010.Or B.E. / B Tech Degree from I.I.T or from a college recognized by AICTE. The candidates should have minimum 50% marks in English language at 10th / 12th standard or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University. Age less than 24 yrs on 01 Aug 2010.

    (b)Medical & psychological fitness as per IMU rules / DG Shipping standards for sea service.

    (c)Eye sight minimum 6/6 with normal colour & night vision tested from a reputed hospital.

    You are not eligible for Deck Cadet in Merchant Navy.
    Only science students with PCM (Physics,Chemistry,Maths) as their subjects are eligible for it.
    As you are from commerce stream,you are not eligible.

    Eligibility

    You can join as a deck cadet on board a ship after completing 10+2 with [COLOR="rgb(255, 0, 255)"]Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics [/COLOR]and train on the job for three years.

    After the on-job- training, you will have to appear for the competency examination, as required by the Union Ministry of Surface Transport, to be eligible to become a Navigation Officer.

    There are three, options available to 10+2 pass (with Chemistry, Physics and Maths) students to enter this line:

    1 Appear in IIT-JEE exam and join a Merchant Navy training institute for a Bachelor's course in
    Marine Engineering to enter as 5th Engineer or a Junior Engineer.


    2 Appear in IIT-JEE exam and do B.Sc. in Nautical Science from a Merchant Navy training institute to
    enter as a Deck Cadet
    .

    3 Appear in IIT-JEE exam and do an Engineering course to enter as Engine Cadet, 5th Engineer or
    Junior Engineer.


    The various pre-sea courses for joining Merchant Navy either as a Deck or Engineer Officer are:

    1 A four-year degree course leading to BE (Marine) after 10+2.

    2 The 2 years course leading to Alternate Training Scheme for Marine Engineers (ATS) after 10+2.

    3 Degree course leading to B.Sc. (Nautical Science) after 10+2.

    the minimum percentage of the marks required for the eligibility in the Deck Cadet is about 50% of the marks in the both 10th and 12th board examination ....

    and as you have secured only 61% of the marks in the Physics and the maths according to me you are eligible for the above said post..

    but there are even other courses that you can persue like that of the B.Sc from the nautical science , marine engineering and others...

    For merchant navy,u fill the the merchant navy form(not navy's but merchants navy's form) then u wiull get a date for interview.If you clear the interview then u get 6 monts training and after that u can join merchant navy.There are several forms for merchant navy of different companies.
    Some company issue their forms in June some in May and so on.
