What is to be done to become an IAS officer?

I am also very keen on becoming an IAS Officer as I love Civics. However I would like to know about the criteria and what happens if I don't get in. Is there any other post below IAS in which I may get in if I don't score well?

    Eagerly waiting for your reply.

    Thankyou

Re: What is to be done to become an IAS officer?

to appear for the exam you will need to first of all complete your graduation. There is no restriction in the area of specialisation. Since you like Civic you can choose this as one of the subjects. Your age should not cross 30 years. The notification shall be released in the month of February. The next exam is scheduled to be held in June. There is no post lower than this. You have four chances to clear the exam. Do not worry about what will happen if you do not clear the exam. Stay focussed on what you would like to achieve.

Re: What is to be done to become an IAS officer?

To work as a IAS officer one should take the Indian Civil Service Examination carried out by the UPSC. To apply for the Civil service examination the candidate should have a bachelor degree in any discipline. A graduate with 50% in the qualifying exam under the recognized university is eligible to apply for the exam. The minimum age required to sit for the exam is 21. The maximum age bound is confined as 30. The criteria for the IAS exam are decided by the UPSC board. There is some relaxation for the reservation category. For a candidate from the OBC category will get 3 years relaxation time and that of SC/ST will get 5 years relaxation in the age criteria. For more details about the exam you can search the official website.

The procedure to become an IAS can be explained as follows:
    1)Preliminary examinations
    2)Mains examinations
    3)Personal interview
This is the three stage procedure which you need to comply with if you want to be a IAS or IES, IRS, IPS, etc.
Basically you are required to appear for CSE(Civil services examinations) examination. And if you obtained a very high score in this examination , you would be allotted IAS(Indian administrative services) and if you have cleared the examination but are not able to obtain a very good score , you would be allowed to choose from IRS, IPS or IES, etc.
So, even if you cleared the examination with lower marks you would be allotted a post of Indian Police services or Indian Economic services, etc.

Re: What is to be done to become an IAS officer?

    Hi

Becoming an IAS(Indian Administrative Services officer) is all done through the same "UPSC held Civil services" examination held.

If you become an IAS officer you become part of the Indian Administrative service. You will be part of the Government. You can work from the inside an change the system.
If you have a dream for indian, or believe that india will soon be a super-power. If you want to be part of the process of making india a great nation, IAS is for you.
Even though you dont get high salary the perks provided by the government are high like job security, discount on government services, government provided transportation and many more things.
Getting into IAS is not so easy.
Well first of all you need to be a graduate to apply for civil services exam. Getting 60% in graduation would be better enough.

There are two to three stages to appear for the exam, first of all you need to appear for
    Preliminary Test
The you have to appear for
    Mains exam
and in the end you have appear for the interview.

To become an IAS its like a 1 or 2 years long marathon of studies then you have chances to succeed.

    Best Luck

    Hi

IAS stands for the Indian Administrative Services. Its one of the toughest and most prestigious entrance examinations in our country.

    heylo,

    >> If you are interested in becoming an IAS officer, you probably know what the IAS is all about and why becoming an IAS officer is a very good career option.

    >>However, just incase you do not know, let us give you some quick information on IAS!

    >>If you become an IAS officer, you become part of the Indian Administrative Service.

    >>You will be part of the Govt. You can work from “the inside” and change “the system”!!

    >>If you have a dream for India, or if you, like us, believe that India will soon be a “super-power”.

    >> If you want to be part of the process of making India a great nation, IAS is for you! Being an IAS officer, there is a lot more power and control you have so that you can be part of Emerging India!

    >>Besides that, IAS is a great career option! You get many “perks of the job” when you are an IAS officer.

    >> You will have “job security”, “discount on Govt. services”, “Govt. provided transportation” and many more things... Even though the monthly salary provided by the IAS career is not too high, the “perks” make up for the less salary!

    >> However, getting into the IAS is not that easy! There is a very competitive “one year long” exam! To get into the IAS, you probably will have to try more than once before you succeed.

    >>And even if you clear the exam, then you have to get a very good score to qualify for the IAS! So, basically getting into the IAS is not that easy.

    >>However, here on indiahowto.com, we will try to show you “how to..” get in.

    >>To get into the IAS, you will have to give the “UPSC held Civil Services Examination”.

    >> It is a common exam for getting into the IAS, IPS etc.

    >>To succeed in the “Civil Services Examination” you first need to understand how the examination is conducted or the “examination format”! But, before we understand that, let get some "Frequently Asked Questions" out of the way….

    wish you all the luck
