No,both are different type of exam.in GATE you have to develop your shills to solve objective question while in IES you have to solve objective as well as subjective questions.In IES objective type question there will be following papers-


1 General ability test part A,general English B-total 2 hrs will be given to you and it will consist 200 marks.
one objective paper from your selected branchlike mechanical/civil/electrical/electronics and communication.
second objective paper same type as of first.

each paper will consist 200 marks thus total 600 marks assigned for first three papers.


candidates who will qualify these papers will be allowed to appear in subjective papers.there will be two papers of subjective type thus these papers will consist 400 marks. candidates who qualify thses papers are allowed to appear in interview.if you got selected in interview a,so then you will get a govt job in various department .syllabus for IES is according to your branch in engineering. many institutes are providing coaching for IES.
In case of GATE syllabus will be your branch but papers will be objective type and total marks will be 100. exam form will be available from September ,you have to fill online form .exam will be conducted in the month of February.once you qualify the GATE then you will be eligible to get admission in various M.tech courses in IITs/NITs/central govt universities. here are some institute for GATE-
