Re: What is the difference between IAS and IPS? Who is more powerful?

There is a huge difference in the responsibilities, duties and powers of an IAS(Indian administrative services) officer and a
    IPS(Indian police services) officer.
As the full form of the abbreviation suggests, that the administrative officer is concerned with greater responsibilities such
as administration and management of a particular district or state. While a IPS is concerned about the police services that are to be provided
in a particular region or locality or state. So, the functions that are performed by IAS are wider in scope.

Re: What is the difference between IAS and IPS? Who is more powerful?

    hey friend

    as the name suggests

IAS stands for INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE.

IPS stands for INDIAN POLICE SERVICE.

exams for both IPS AND IAS are conducted by UPSC.

----- if you secure better ranks in upsc examinations then you will qualify for the IAS and lower ranks then for IPS.

    DIFFERENCE:

1.IAS has handles administrative and governmental offers whereas IPS concerned with the taking the challenging responsibility of maintaining law and order in society.

2.IAS can hold posts like Cabinet Secretary, Under Secretary, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Secretary whereas IPS officers clearly belong to the police force and hold posts like Superintendent of

Police, Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General. These officers can be posted in different wings of police department such as CBI, CID etc.

IAS is more powerful than IPS in many respect because he has the power of controlling the district regulations while ips works under the power of IAS OFFICER.

    hope the information helps you

Re: What is the difference between IAS and IPS? Who is more powerful?

    Hello Friend !!

    IAS -- Indian Administrative Services.

You need to appear the All India Civil Services Examination in order to become an IAS officer.

Civil Services Examination has a three stage competitive selection process.

At stage one, there is an objective type examination called the preliminary exam.
    This is a qualifying examination.
It consists of General Studies & aptitude test.

Only the candidates who clear this, can appear for the next stage called the Main examination which consists of nine papers.

    The Final Stage is Interview.

The duties of an IAS officer are :

    Junior Officers
    Senior Scale includes,
    Under Secretary,
    District Magistrates,
    Directors of public enterprises and
    Directors of government departments
    Selection Grade-Director
    Senior Administrative Grade and
    Secretary.

IAS Officers are involved in planning in their district, making decisions on action to be taken.

Setting plans down on paper and modifying and/or clarifying them.

Policy making is another duty of an IAS Officer.

IAS officers must also monitor funds for these projects, assuring that the funds are used for the intended purposes.

These are the duties which makes an IAS Officer powerful.

    IPS -- Indian Police Service.

To become an IPS Officer, one has to be Qualified in the Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year which is a common examination for selection to All India Services.

The Exam Pattern is same as mentioned above.

Responsibilities of an IPS Officer :

    Crime prevention,
    Investigation, and detection,
    Collection of intelligence,
    VIP security,
    Counter-terrorism,
    Border policing,
    Railway policing,
    Tackling smuggling,
    Drug trafficking,
    Economic offences,
    Corruption in public life,
    Disaster management,
    Enforcement of socio-economic legislation,
    Bio-diversity and
    Protection of environmental laws etc.

These are the duties of an Indian Police Service Officer.

All these duties are assigned by the IAS Officer.

So, one can say that IAS Officer is more Powerful than IPS officer, since IAS Officer has more rights than IPS officer.

    Hi Guest,

IAS means (Indian administrative services) officer and IPS means (Indian police services) officer.

Both have their own importance and for IPS the physical requirements are required whereas in case of IAS they are not considered.

In my point of view many people aim for IAS as we will be representing our country to other country delegates which is considered as great for them.

    Thank you,

    All The Best.

    HAI,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    IAS AND IPS
dear Indian administrative service (IAS) and Indian police service(IPS) is the most prestigious and respected job in india, this job has authority and influence in Indian society and the entire government objectives in one of the ancient country.
IPS is not more prestigious than IAS ,the majority of the students in india looks at the Indian administrative service as their dream job ,however the Indian police service is not that far behind when it comes to prestigious and popularity, when you begin in the IPS ,you will start as a superintendent ,which is the high post in the police ranking, this career is more challenging compared to IAS,
and maintaining the law and order is a very difficult job ,especially when yo are assigned to the slums of india where goons and young criminals roam about.peace keeping is a very big responsibility's in the society.
IAS is focussed more on the administrative part of the job ,but IPS is more on teh application and how to keep the peace in the society.
so IAS more better than IPS.

Re: What is the difference between IAS and IPS? Who is more powerful?

IAS and IPS both are the civil service examination. If we talk about this as an examination then there is almost no difference.INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE AND INDIAN POLICE SERVICE Both the examination conduct by the UPSC every year. Both the examination requires a bachelor degree frm a recognized university with 55% marks in your aggregate. Both the examination are conducts for the civil service as higher post. For the examination your age must be lie between 21 year to 30 year. The examination pattern and the procedure of getting selection in Ias as well Ips are also same.So there is no difference if we see as entrance examination view.
If we see as post then comparison between IAS and IPS is quite difficult.Ips is a police service it is the head post in entire department of police force.
And the IAS is higher post in Administration.
