Thumbs up Re: What is the difference between IAS and IPS? From when should I start preparation? Should I start coaching for the subjects?

    Hi friend,

Well friend, IAS stands for Indian Administrative service

at same time IPS stands for Indian Police service.

Well, UPSC through Civil services examination Recruits many students to hold India's Highest Bureaucratic posts like IAS,IPS,IFS.

    So, IAS becomes DM, Collector,etc

    while IPS becomes SP, Commissioner,etc

For IAS you need to secure rank under 150, while for IPS under 300.

    Eligiblity for this examination :

    >> You must be atleast Graduate from any University in any trade

    >> You age should lie in mid of 21 to 30

    >> You must be Indian Citizen

    >> Attempts you may do : 4

Well, friend as far as you are concerned work on your 10 th first and then 12th,, currently dont worry about it , since this examination is too big for you now.

If you are so interested then go for GK , keep studying it.

As for your knowledge there are many subjects there , so no need for that now, you may select any of them.

There are three rounds of UPSC :

    >> CSAT

    >> Mains

    >> Interview

    Hope it helps!!

    HAI,,,,,,,,,,,,,
DEAR IAS and IPS are two of the most IMPORTANT career in India. IAS is the Indian Administrative Service while IPS is the Indian Police Service. Union Public Service Commission in India is an autonomous body who conducts examinations for various government sector jobs in India and the most notable among these are the posts of IAS and the IPS. A career in IAS is considered to be a status symbol in India and it is seen with respect and admiration from all segments of the society. It is a career that offers influence as well as great responsibility to carry out administrative objectives of the government. While the same cannot be said for IPS, it certainly is a much sought after category with the police being responsible for maintaining law and order in the society. Both careers are full of growth opportunities for you to join these services.

    Difference between IAS and IPS
Both IAS and IPS are streams that are a part of the joint exam conducted by UPSC. The selection procedure is similar and all applicants have to pass through the same screening procedure. High rank holders become an IAS while those having lower ranks have to join IPS.
If we were to differentiate between IAS and IPS, their duties are clearly demarcated. IAS personnel handle governmental affairs and are absorbed in the administrative setup, while IPS are personnel that take up the challenging responsibility of maintaining law and order in the society.

    IPS hold posts like
    • Superintendent of Police,
    • Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General.
These officers can be posted in different wings of police department such as CBI, CID etc.
both IPS,and IAS exam will be consists of
    • prelims,
    • mains,
    • and finally interview stage ,
you have to clear the IAS prelims to claim the mains and than interview session,
    education qualifications.
you must have graduate degree in any discipline of any of the universities incorporated by an act of central or state legislature in india or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament.
you are also eligible if you are in the final stage in your degree.
    age requirement
your age must be 21 years of age on 1st of august.
you must have 21-30 years of age to be qualified,
