Both CAT and GMAT are entrance exams which help in getting in to the management field. The CAT is a Common Admission test. This is an All India examination which is conducted. The objective is to secure admission in any of the IIM’S in the country. Many other management colleges also accept the score of CAT for MBA admissions. Where as GMAT is a graduate Management Admission Test. This is also conducted for entering in to the management field. This exam helps you to secure admissions to management course in foreign countries.

CAT exam put forward strict qualification criteria as it is one of the most sought after exams for admission to MBA programs in premium business schools in India. Any graduate can appear for this exam provided he meets the criteria of desired pass percentage.

The Graduate Management Admission Test is an exam carried out for helping business schools assesses the qualification of their applicants. Students who pass this exam can go for higher studies in business and management.

CAT and GMAT are both entrance level exams to pursue a career in the field of management.

    >>While CAT is Common Admission Test conducted on an all India level by Indian Institutes of Management for entrance to 7 IIM’s located across the country,

    >>GMAT is Graduate Management Admission Test that is conducted for entrance to management courses offered by colleges in the US and some other English speaking countries.

    >>Talking of differences, CAT and GMAT differ in the level of difficulty and types of questions. While Math section is tougher in CAT, GMAT is considered tougher in the verbal section.

    >>CAT is a paper based test whereas GMAT is computer adaptive.

    >>In CAT, you can go back to attempt a question but in GMAT, you have to answer the question that has been presented and cannot go back to a question once you have answered it.

    >>You cannot see the next question until he has given his answer for the previous question.

    good luck !!!

Re: What is the difference between the exam pattern of CAT and GMAT Entrance exams?

Most of the students are having the same doubt as you have. In my opinion GMAT is far better than CAT. The only reason for saying this is, CAT is conducted only ONCE in a year whereas GMAT will be done 5 times!! The chance of succeeding is more.. Here are the details

CAT stands for Common Admission Test
GMAT stands for Graduate Management Aptitude Test

GMAT Score is valid for 5 years.
CAT score is valid for 1year

    GMAT has less aspirants
    CAT has many aspirants(in lacks)

GMAT is conducted five times a year. SO, you have lot of chances to get a GMAT rank
CAT is done only one time

GMAT can be considered by many institutes across the world.
CAT is a typical Indian test. Which is valid only in India and to take part in IIM's or B Schools

GMAT is conducted by " Sylvan Testing Services Pvt Ltd " and it conducts GMAT in following 9centers.

Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Trivendrum.

    Eligibility:

50% or above marks in degree
Good percentile and percentage in entrance exams

    GMAT Exam pattern :
    • Analytical Writing Assessment
    • Quantitative section
    • Verbal section

    COMMON ADMISSION TEST (CAT) :
The duration of CAT is 2 hours and 30 minutes including initial 15 minute tutorial.
No breaks will be given during the test.
The test consists of questions on quantitative, verbal, and logical & data interpretation abilities.
Therefore, there are a total of three sections in the test. There will be about 60 questions in the test.

    Exam pattern of CAT:
    • Quantitative Aptitude
    • Reading Comprehension
    • Verbal Ability
    • Data Interpretation
    • Reasoning
    • Data Sufficiency
