hello friend,you have to first complete your b.tech to fight for the civils;the new pattern for civil services is CSAT i.e.civil services aptitude test,;the exam is being conducted into 3 stages;
1-prelims(MCQ)
first paper-general studies
second -aptitude test(analytical ability,comprehension,logical reasoning etc.)
2-mains(only if you qualify in prelims)
8 papers (DESCRIPTIVE)
out of 8 4 papers i.e.2 subjects you will have to choose according to your interest
one is of g.k
one for essays,one for any indian language,one for english

age limit:21-30 years
eligibility:graduate in any discipline

sc/st-unlimited attempts.

You can choose a language of your choice as the 2nd language. You may choose any of the regional language listed by the UPSC. This is an addition to the new scheme of examination, thus candidates must have knowledge on any of the regional language. The examination is conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). Any Degree holder can apply for an IAS exam. The exam consists of basically two parts, the first one being the Preliminary examination followed by the main (descriptive examination). Be prepared for two papers. The first one is on social science, economics, geography, politics and general science. There should be 200 questions in this paper. The second paper deals with comprehension, English language, ability test, basic numeracy and mental ability. The total number of questions is 200 in this section too. Shortlisted candidates are selected for the Main examination. It consists of 9 papers which include one regional language, English, Essay, General studies, etc. After the examination a general interview is conducted. Then candidates are shortlisted based on the mark obtained during the test and the interview.

Yes, its True That The UPSC have already Changed the Preliminary Examination Pattern and form now the examination was comprises of 2 compulsory papers of 200 Marks Each the duration of both the examination was Same, You have to crack the Preliminary Examination first only then you are eligible for Main Examination. So, please check the Preliminary Examination Pattern and prepare yourself according to the given syllabus.

UPSC Preliminary Examination Pattern -

Paper I -

- Current events of national and international importance.
- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
- General Science.


Paper II-

- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
- Logical reasoning and Analytical ability
- Decision-making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)
- English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).

I heard that like prelims pattern, mains pattern also going to be changed from 2013 onwards.. is it true?
