    If you want to become an IAS officer then you will have to appear for the civil service exam which is conducted by the UPSC.The examination is conduced once a year .This examination is held in three phases ::

    1.Preliminary exam ::This is to check the general knowledge of the students .The question ask will be related to History ,Geography and general studies question .

    2.Main examination ::This examination consist of two phases ::

    1.Written exam
    2.Interview .

    For written exam you will have to choose two optional subjects from the list of subjects and there will be total 4 paper on these subjects two on each subjects .You will also have to choose one language out of 22 languages.

    IAS exam is conducted by the UPSC govt. for every year only ONCE ,for 2011 the exam is already conducted.

    Important dates for 2012:
    CSAT 2012 will be held on May 20, 2012 (Sunday)
    CSAT 2012 Notification Date: February 4, 2012
    CSAT 2012 Last Date to Apply: March 05, 2012
    CSAT 2012 Exam Date: May 20, 2012

    IAS Preliminary Exam Pattern :

    ** This exam is held around May-June in this you have the objective type questions and objective type questions is divide in to two papers
    General studies and Optional subject.

    The Eligibility for appearing IAS Examination is :

    Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification

    You must be an Age in between 21-30 years as on 1.7.2011 & the Upper age limit relaxable for SCs/STs, OBCs and certain other categories .

    No. of permissible attempts are Four (Seven attemps of OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs

    The IAS Examination is a Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of objective type (multiple-choice questions) carrying a maximum of 400 marks .

    Examination would consist of two papers- Paper I and Paper II. The syllabus and pattern of the Preliminary Examination would be as under :

    You must be thorough in all the following subjects with respective to the Examination Paper .

    Paper 1 :-This is for 200 marks and it is a Duration of 2 hrs .

    The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.

    IAS entrance exam is now renamed as CSAT exam. The exam is conducted by UPSC. The exam comprises of two papers. Paper-I is meant is measure the general awareness of the person. It includes questions on Current events, history, geography, politics, etc. The second paper is meant to measure the analytical and logical skill of the person. This paper cover questions on mental ability, reading comprehension, logical reasoning etc.

    each paper of the IAS exam will be of 3 hours and their will be thrre hours break between two papers held on the same day.

    Dear friend,
    Procedure is follows:
    There will be two written exam and after that interviews will be there .All three are elimination round.You have to perform good in all three rounds.

    From last year some changes have been done to increase the efficiency of the exam. In new pattern
    give special emphasize on the aptitude skills and decision making skills of the participating candidates.

    1.In pre exam two papers will be there,each of two hours a) General studies and b)Optional subject.Objective type questions will be asked.

    2.Main paper comprises of 9 papers,each of three hours.One of the Indian languages,2 papers on general studies ,2 papers on option-1 and 2 papers on optional-2.

    3. In the end interview will be there.Interview will be of 5-7 hrs.

    4.Merit list will be out.

    The IAS examination is conducted in 3 stages -
    (1) Civil Services Preliminary Examinations (CSP) -conducted in May.
    (2) Civil Services (Main) Examinations -conducted in October/November
    (3) Those who are selected in the main examination will be eligible to appear before the Interview Board

    It comprises of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each and of two hours duration each. Subjects are as follows:

    • Current events of national and international importance
    • History of India and Indian National Movement
    • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.
    • Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
    • Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.

    Main examination has two optional subjects (two papers each carries 300 marks), one General Studies (two papers each carries 300 marks), one essay (carries 200 marks) - total 2000 marks. This is to test the ability of the candidate's proficiency in his mother tongue / Indian language and English. Total nine papers. These two papers carry 300 marks each but it will not be considered for the ranking. It is must to clear these two papers. If a candidate fails to clear these papers, his other papers will not be evaluated.

    If you qualify these 2 stages, you are called for an interview , which carries 300 marks. The overall ranking is done based on the Mains performance (i.e., 2000 marks) and interview. Therefore, the total marks involved in the ranking are 2300.
    Then at last you are assigned various posts as listed by you in the application form.

    its objective type paper its consist aptitude and general study paper this paper is same for all candidates

    stage 2:

    IAS (Indian Administrative Services) is basically for those who are firmly determined for dedication of themselves towards the own country.

    If you are so interested for IAS,after being Engineers, Doctors, or Ph.d you can sit IAS exam conducted by UPSC.

    Application forms will come out in the month of January.

    According to the new exam pattern of the IAS exam

    1) General-Studies paper which carries 150 marks

    2) Optional paper which carries 150 marks.

    Eligibility Criteria :-

    1.Educational Qualification:To appear in IAS exam you should have a Graduation degree in any stream from a recognize University. If you are in final year you can also eligible to apply for the examination.

    2.Age:The age must be between 21 to 30 years at the time of appearing of this examination. The age relaxation is also applicable for the candidates belong to reservation category.

    General Candidates - 4 Attempts

    OBC Candidates - 7 Attempts

    SC/ST Candidates - No Limits.

    The Eligibility for appearing IAS Examination is :

    Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification

    You must be an Age in between 21-30 years as on 1.7.2011 & the Upper age limit relaxable for SCs/STs, OBCs and certain other categories .

    No. of permissible attempts are Four (Seven attemps of OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs

    The IAS Examination is a Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of objective type (multiple-choice questions) carrying a maximum of 400 marks .

    Examination would consist of two papers- Paper I and Paper II. The syllabus and pattern of the Preliminary Examination would be as under :

    You must be thorough in all the following subjects with respective to the Examination Paper .

    Paper 1 :-This is for 200 marks and it is a Duration of 2 hrs .

    And the questions asked from :

    Hi,
    eligibility education criteria :-

    Graduate and Candidates appearing for Degree qualification are also eligible for appearing in the examination,
    however they are supposed to submit proof of passing the requisite qualification along with with Detailed Application Form for Civil Services (Main) Examination.

    He/She should be 21years to 30 yrs of age at the time of appearing.

    A general candidate can attempt 4 times only.

    Where as OBC can attempt 7 times.

    And no limit for SCs/STs.

    For 2012 you can expect around the same dates and for that you can refer www.upsc.gov.in for further detail and to apply..

    This time UPSC pattern is changed and it is called as CSAT which is coming into effect from Civil Services Examination, 2011.and so there is no option subjects...


    It consits of two paper and each paper of Two hrs..


    Paper 1:-
    marks:-200 marks)

    Consists of:-
    History
    Geography
    Indian Polity and governance
    Economic and social development
    & General science.

    Paper II:-
    marks=200

    consists of:-

    Hello if i'm from science background with computers and math and NO biology in 12th. But i couldn't clear math but i cleared my 12th with my 6th subject. Now i'm pursuing eng hons. Can u tell me if i'm eligible to give this entrance exam for ias or not? And if yes then what should be my subject combination in PRELIMS and MAINS? Please do tell
