    UPSC examination for Section Officers/ Stenographers

    An examination for the selection of Section Officers and Stenographers is carried out by the Union Public Service Commission of India. The Combined Limited Departmental Competitive Examination is held for the recruitment of Section Officers Grade and Stenographers Grade-I/Grade B by the UPSC. They are mentioned below.
    • The Section Officers’ Grade for the Intelligence Bureau.
    • The Section Officers’ Grade for Central Secretariat Service
    • The Section Officers' Grade exam for the Railway Board Secretariat Service
    • Grade 'B' exam for the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers' Service.
    • Section Officers’ Grade exam for the Armed Forces Head Quarters Civil Service.
    • Grade ‘A’ & ‘B’ merged examination for the Central Secretariat Stenographers' Service.
    • Grade-I of the Stenographers’ Cadre exam for the Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’.
    • Grade ‘A’ & ‘B’ merged exam for the Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers’ Service.
    • Section Officers’ Grade (Integrated Grade II & III) exam for the General Cadre of Indian Foreign Service, Branch 'B'.

    Structure and Pattern of Examination
    Part A
    The aspirants must appear for the given Essay Type Papers.
    • Noting /drafting and précis writing.
    • The Procedure and Practices in the specific departments.
    • General Knowledge about the Indian constitution, working methods of the government, the Practice and Procedures of the Parliament of India. (Categories I, II, III and IX). And General Knowledge about the constitution of India and the working of the Indian Government, the Practice and Procedure in the Parliament of India (Categories IV, V,VI and VII).
    • Rules for General Finance and Service for specific category.
    • General Studies
    The Part B is about the assessment of the 5 year Credits

    The Eligibility Criterion
    The eligibility for appearing for this examination is limited to a few. The Assistants or Stenographers Grade C/Grade II or as Cipher Assistants Grade II of the Cipher Sub-cadre of the Indian Foreign Service Branch B who are part of the department are eligible for appearing for this test. The examination lasts for four days.

    Age limits: There is no particular age limit for the aspirants. The examination is solely for the purpose to serve the Central Government Employees working at the Intelligence Armed Forces headquarters, Railway Board Secretariat Service, Civil Services, Stenographer Grade-C of the Central Secretariat, The Bureau, or as the Assistant in the Assistant Grade of the Central Secretariat Service. The examination is restricted to serving Central Government employees.

    Application Procedure for UPSC Stenographer exam
    The Application forms and the complete details regarding them are available from The Secretary, the Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069. It can be bought by paying Rs.20.00 by Money Order or by payment of Cash at the U.P.S.C. Counter. The aspirants must clearly affirm on the M.O coupons what designation they are writing the exam for, and the complete address,. They must also state their names and full postal addresses in capital letters. Payment by any other means like Cheque, Currency notes, Indian Postal Orders etc. is not acceptable in stead of the Money Order.
