    The Merchant Navy is basically deals with transporting cargo and occasionally, passengers, by sea.

    WORKING AREA

    You need to monitor navigational details at sea and cargo handling at ports.

    Yes there is chance for you to join the Merchant Navy as in the DECK cadet. You have only option to join in the deck cadet. Merchant Navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly two specialized fields, i.e. Marine Engineering and Nautical (deck). To become a seafarer, following streams of entries (Pre-Sea courses) are available to Indian citizens in the Government as well as in private training institutions. These are the following courses in which you can get into the Merchant Navy.

    3 year degree course in Nautical Science for (10+2) students.
    4 year degree course in Marine Engineering for (10+2) students.
    2 year course for Diploma Holders.
    1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers.
    3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students.

    Yes, you are eligible to join Merchant Navy after completion of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

    The General Eligibility Criteria are

    12th passed with science stream with a combination of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

    Or,

    Diploma holder from any engineering sphere.

    The different courses in Merchant Navy are
    • For class X pass students or higher but from non-science background can join the Merchant Navy by enrolling for the GP Rating Course.
    • For class XII (PCM) students or higher can join the Merchant Navy by enrolling for the HND Nautical Science Course.
    • BE Mechanical Graduates can join the Merchant Navy by enrolling for the GEC UK Conversion Course.
    • BE Non Mechanical Graduates can join the Merchant Navy by enrolling for the GEC Fiji Conversion Course.
    You may take the first option or even take admission in general course.

    Admissions for the GP Rating Course, HND Nautical Science Course, GEC Course are done throughout the year. There are three intakes in a year for all courses.
    • January / February
    • June / July
    • October / November

    yes you can join merchant navy after your b.tech from mechenical stream.for this you have to join 1yr trainong offered by MERI,mumbai and kolkata etc. so go for it ....... bset of luck.

    Eligibility for merchant navy:

    -Martial status:Both married and female candidates are eligible for this exam.
    -Nationality:Indian
    -Age:Your age should not be more tahn 20 years.
    -Educational qualifications:The candidate must pass the 10+2 or equvilent ,having passed chemistry,mathematics and physics as a elective subject.

    If you fulfill those qualifications you are eligible for the Navy exam.
