    Hi,
    Age limit:
For general category the maximum age is 30 years.
    for OBC 33 years
    For SC/ST candidates 35 years.
If you are OBC candidate or SC/ST candidate then you can apply for the civil service exams.

Re: Tell me the age relaxation for Indian Armed Forces Employees to appear in Civil Service Exam of UPSC? Am I eligible to write UPSC CSE at the age of 33 as a defence person?

    Dear friend.
Indian civil services exam is conducted every year by the UPSC for the post of officers in the following departments of India:
*Indian Administrative services: for the post of officers in the administrative body of India
*Indian forest service: for the post of officers in the forest and wildlife parks and botanical gardens of India
*Indian foreign service: for the post of officers in the external affairs ministry and foreign officers posts
*Indian police service: for the post of officers in the police departments of India
*Indian customs and central excise service: for the post of officers in the tax departments and the customs offices of India
*Indian revenue service: for the post of officers in the RBI and other depatments

To be eligible for the exam you have to fulfill the following eligibility details:
*you have to be an Indian national
*you have to be a 21 to 30 years of age. There is 3 years age relaxation for the OBC candidates and 5 years for the schedule caste and tribe candidates and jammu kashmir migrants.
*you have to be a graduate in any discipline. There is no minimum percentage criteria and that is why the graduates with just a pass degree can also give the exam
*you can attempt the exam only:
4 times if from general category
7 times if from OBC category
unlimited no. of times if from sc/st category

so that means there is no quota or age relaxation for the armed foces employees and that is why you being 33 years of age cannot apply for the exam if from general category but can only apply if belong to OBC or SC/ST category.
since anyone with a pass degree in the graduation can apply for it , that makes the IAS as the most competitive exam o India but not the toughest!!!
The notification for the exam comes in the month of january to feb and the exam being conducted in the mid year. The exam consist of following three stages:
    1. Prelim exam: It is an objective type exam on general knowledge and an optional subject from: veterinaty sciences/medical/political/social sciences/maths/commerce/accountancy/zoology/botany/philosophy/psychology/public administration
    2. Mains exam: It is a written exam on essay writing, optional subject pair exam with two papers on each subject, general english, general awareness...
    3. Interview: after clearing the exam you are divided into the division you get qualified into based on your marks like wether you belong to the IAS, IPS, IFS, etc...and then you are called for the interview

    Good luck
