    PGECET syllabus for the Electronics and Communication Engineering branch for the year 2012 includes

    I. Engineering Mathematics :

    1. Linear Algebra : Matrix Algebras, Systems of Linear Equations, Eigen values, Eigen vectors.

    2. Calculus : Mean value theorems, Theorems of Integral calculus, Evaluation of definite and improper integrals, Partial derivatives, Maxima and Minima, Multiple Integrals, Fourier series, Vector identities, Directional derivatives, Line surface and volume integrals, Stokes, Gauss and Green's theorems.

    3. Differential Equations : 1st order equation, Higher order Linear Differential equations with constant coefficients, Method of variation Parameters, Cauchy's and Euler's equations, Intial and Boundary value problems, Partial Differential Equations and Variable Separable method.

    4. Complex Variables : Analytic functions, Cauchy's integral theorem and integral formula, Taylor's and Laurent series, Residue theorem, Solution integrals.

    5. Probability and Statistics : Sampling theorems, Conditional probability, Mean, Median, Mode, Standard deviation, Random variables, Discrete and Continuous distributions, Poisson, Normal and Binomial distribution, Correlation, and Regression analysis.

    6. Numerical methods : Solutions of Non linear algebraic equations, single and Multi step methods for differential equations.

    7. Transform theory : Fourier transform, Laplace ransform, Z transform.

    II. Electronics and Communications :

    1. Networks : Network graphs, Matrices associated with graphs incidence, Fundamental cut set and fundamental circuit matrices, Solution methods, Nodal and Mesh analysis. Network theorems : Superposition, Thevenin and Norton's maximum power transfer, Wye - Delta transformation. steady state sinusoidal analysis using phasors. Linear constant coefficient differential equations, Time domain analysis of RLC circuits. 2 - port network parameters driving point and transfer functions. state equations for networks.

    2. Electronic devices : Energy bands in silicon, Intrinsic and Extrinsic silicon, carrier transport in silicon, diffusion current, drift current, mobility and resistivity. Generation and recombination of carriers. P-N junction diode, Basics of LASER's. Device technology : Integrated circuits fabrication process, oxidation, diffusion, ion implantation, photolithography, n-tub, p-tub, and twin-tub CMOS process.

    3. Analog circuits : Small signal equivalent circuits of diodes, BJT's, MOSFET's and analog CMOS. Simple diode circuits, clipping, clamping, rectifier. Basing and bias stability of transistor and FET amplifiers. Amplifiers : Single and Multi Stage differential and operational, feedback and power. Frequency response of amplifiers. Single op-amp circuits. Filters sinusoidal oscillators, criteria for oscillation, single transistors and op-amp configurations. Function generators and wave shaping circuits, 555 timers, power supplies.

    4. Digital circuits : Boolean algebra, minimization of boolean functions, logic gates, digital IC families ( DTL, TTL, ECL, MOS, CMOS ). Combinational circuits : arithmetic circuits, code convertors, multiplexers, decoders, PROM's and PLA's, sequential circuits : latches and flip-flops, counters and shift registers, sample and hold circuits, ADC's DAC's semiconductor memories. Microprocessors ( 8085 ) : architecture, programming, memory and I/O interfacing.

    5. Signals and Systems : Definitions and Properties of Laplace transform continuous time and discrete time fourier series, continuous time and discrete fourier transform, DFT and FFT, Z transform, sampling theorem. Linear Time Invariant ( LTI ) systems: Definitions, properties, causality, stability, impulse, response, convulation, poles, and zero's, parallel and cascade structure, frequency response, group delay, phase delay, signal transmission through LTI system.

    6. Control systems : Basic control systems, block diagrammatic description, reduction of block diagrams. open loop and closed loop and stability analysis of these systems. signal flow graphs and their use in determining transfer functions of systems, transient and steady state analysis of LTI control systems and frequency response. Tools and techniques for LTI control systems analysis: root loci, Routh Hurwitz criteria, Bode and Nyquist plots. control system compensators, elements of lead and lag compensation, elements of proportional Integral Derivative ( PID ) control. State representation and solution of state equation of LTI control systems.

    7. Communications : Random signals and Noise, Probability, Random variables, Probability density function, autocorelation, power spectral analysis of these operations, superheterodyne receivers, elements of hardware, realizations of analog communication systems, signal to noise ratio, calculations of amplitude modulation ( AM ) and frequency modulation ( FM ) for low noise conditions, Fundamentals of Information theory and channel capacity theorem. Digital communication systems: pulse code modulation differential pulse code modulation ( DPCM ), Digital modulation systems: Amplitude phase and frequency shift keying schemes, matched filter receivers, bandwidth consideration and probability of error calculations for these schemes. Basics of TDMA, FDMA, CDMA GSM.

    8. Electromagnetics : Elements of vector calculus, divergenceand curl:Gauss and stokes theorems, Maxwell's equations, differential and integral forma. Wave equations, poynting vector. plane waves: propagation through various media; reflection and refraction;phase and group velocity. Plane waves: propagation through various media;reflection and refraction, phase and group velocity, skin depth. Transmission lines: Impedance transformation, smith chart, impedance matching. S Parameters, pulse excitation. Wave guides. Basic propagation in Dielectric wave guide and optical fibers. Basics of Antennas.

    Candidates have to mark the correct answer by darkening the appropriate

    bubble against each question on an Optical Mark Reader (OMR) with HB Pencil only

    OMR Answer Sheets will be supplied along with the Question Booklet.

    Instructions To Candidates:

    1. Candidates are required to apply for PGECET-2012 test papers through

    Online only (printed hardcopy of the applications will not be accepted).

    2. The application/ registration fee for each test paper is Rs. 500/-

    ( Rs 250/- in case of SC/ST)

    3. Test is of two hour duration with 120 multiple choice objective type questions,

    carrying one mark for each question. The cut off mark in the Common

    Entrance Test is 25% , in case of SC/ST there is no Minimum Marks.

    4. The examination will be held from 10.00 am to 12.00 am and 2.00pm to 4.00 pm

    as per the Time Table given in this Information Booklet.

    5. The Question Papers will be in English only, syllabus of each test paper

    is given at annexure-A

    6. Before applying for PGECET-2012 candidates must assure themselves that they

    have chosen the correct test paper, which qualifies them to become eligible to

    seek admission to the specific program they are interested in. The details of the

    courses offered by the Universities along with specified eligibility for each course

    and test to be written is given at Annexure-B. Candidates should ensure that they

    satisfy the eligibility criteria for admission into the preferred program as given

    in Annexure-B .

    7. PGECET-2012 is held at three different cities in the state i.e., Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam,

    Tirupathi.

    8. As per AICTE the eligibility criterion for admission to Engineering and Pharmacy

    is 50 % in the qualifying examination (45% for reserved category). Further,

    the qualifying degree (Professional courses) obtained under distance mode

    must have AICTE approval.

    9. Candidate should satisfy local/non local status requirements as per AP GO Ms No 153.

    10. Candidates can appear in the examination only by producing the Hall Tickets.

    The Hall tickets are to be downloaded from the website www.appgecet.org.

    11. Separate Notification will be issued for admission based on GATE/GPAT Score.

    12. A.P. State policy on reservation shall be followed in PG admissions excluding

    seats available for Sponsored category, from time to time.

    13. The candidate can apply for multiple tests. However, separate registration

    fee must be paid for each test.

    14. Appearing in the test does not guarantee admission. The candidate has to

    satisfy all the requirements at the time of admission.
