The National Institute of Design (NID) is a pioneer in the field of design education and research. Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) and Post-Graduate Diploma Program in Design (PGDPD) are the courses offered by the institute. The course is most suited for graduates especially for those from engineering, architecture, technology, fine arts, IT and computer science background. NID conducts entrance exam for the UG and PG course admission.
The exam pattern for the UG and PG is comprised of 3 design aptitude tests which include memory drawing, color arrangement based on theme, composition, animation, proposition and perspective knowledge, visual design and abstract symbolism with a total of 60 point.
NID has not set a precise syllabus for the entrance exam. Each candidate has to prepare themselves in several subjects of design like drawing skills, creativity, composition, general mental ability and communication skills. The selection of the candidate for the second round interview is based on the marks obtained in the written test and previous academic qualification. In the second round each candidate goes through a studio test and personal interview which conclude the selection procedure.
