    Hi there!
    >>Unfortunately computer science is not an option in the option lists for mains examination.
    >>Geography or sociology should be the options for you.
    >>These subjects will be tougher for you but no other way.
    >>The preliminary or the CSAT has a vommon pattern of examination for all.
    >>You must be a graduate from a government recognized college for becoming eligible for the same.

    All the best

    Hi.,
First of all thank you for contacting EducationCareers.in
It is best suggested to take either History/Geography for the mains exam as there is no Computer Science for main exam!...

    Dear Applicant,
-With COMPUTER not featuring among the list of optional subjects in the CIVIL SERVICE EXAMS conducted by the UPSC,if you are looking for a technical subject, than the best option for you is PHYSICS.
-However,I personally would recommend you to opt for an Arts Subject in Mains Exams of the Civil Services.Subjects such as INDIAN HISTORY,PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION,GEOGRAPHY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE,have a very high success rate. These subjects are highly scoring and even form a core part in the Preliminary Exams, which might hand you with a double advantage.
-Take your time, and choose the best for yourself.
    Good Luck.

IAS exam is conducted by UPSC in once time in year through Civil Service Exam.So you must attend in CSAT exam.

Those candidate have completed graduation degree or final year of graduation degree from recognized board are applicable for IAS exam.

But your age should be in between 22 to 30 years old.Age relaxation is provide only for SC/ST/OBC category as per govt rule.

The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. for OBC candidate it is 7 times and for general candidate it is 5 times.

Also you must be in citizen in India.

You can choose the Optional and Main subject as your strength.

    OPTIONAL SUBJECT FOR IAS EXAM

From my point of view you can choose from History ,Geography , Pol science .Because this subjects are scoring .Because their is no related subject for computer science .

Thumbs up Re: Which subject should I choose from the given optional subject list for IAS mains exam if I'm from B.Tech computer science background?

    hi frnd,

for I.A.S. mains we cannot choose two subjects which are almost the same.

eg. A Person studying Maths cannot take statistics as the other main.

the fact is that the applicant should have vast knowledge in both of the chosen subjects.

bear this in mind & choose groups.

In case of u I suggest u can take science stream such as chemistry, maths etc .

because UNFORTUNATELY computer is not an optional subject !!!!!!!!!!

    Hey there....

In UPSC service exam you have to pick 2 subjects for the main exam.
If you are confident of tackling chemistry/physics being from technical background then you can pick one of these subjects.
If this is not the case then the best alternative for you is to pick the general topics like Anthropology, Sociology, or Geography. These subjects are not only scoring but also a little easy to understand and digest as compared to the other listed subjects.

Which ever subject you choose it is highly recommended that you are well versed with all the concepts attached to it and that you are up-to date about the latest news in those fields. This will go a long way in helping you during the exam.

    All the Best!!
