To become an engineer, you should take up main subject as science. You should select Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics. Also 50% marks in 12th class is required to apply for the same. Selection process will necessitate the candidates to appear common engineering entrance examination. Those candidates who score high score in entrance examination will get admission for engineering course. Also you have mentioned that you are weak in mathematics subject. You can improve in this subject area through proper practice. Try to go coaching classes through which you can improve in this subject area.

    Hey there...

To become an engineer you must opt for Maths, physics and chemistry in you +2.
You say that you like maths, that is more than sufficient to take you forward. With right practice and effort you can definitely come out with a good percentage.
In engineering you will have maths in the 1st year only, so it must not be a difficulty for you.
After you +2 you must write the common entrance exams to get admissions into various colleges.
There are national level colleges as well as state level. Choose a college with good placement opportunities.

    All the best!!

To become an engineer you have to choose science stream. It is important to have subject combination like physics, chemistry and mathematics. But if you want to pursue courses like biomedical engineering, food processing technology or biotechnology then you also have to choose biology as one of your subject.

You can do B.Tech in aeronautical engineering, automobile engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, computer science engineering, IT etc.

Re: Which stream to opt after 10th to become an engineer?

To become an engineer you will have to opt for science stream after 12th.

The eligibility for taking up engineering course in any engineering college in india is given below-

    >>candidate should have passed 12th with science stream from a recgnizeded board.

    >>candidate should have studies Physics , Chemistry and maths as a subject in 12th.

    >>candidate should have scored minimum 50% marks in PCM and 50% marks in 12th overall.

So to become an engineer you need to take up PCM subject in science stream.

One more thing ,that admission in engineering courses in Indian is done on the basis of your score in engineering entrance exams.

You can give the following engineering entrance exams-

    AIEEE
    IIT-JEE
    Bit-Sat
    MHT-CET
    AEMCET
    WBJEE etc...

    GOOD LUCK

Re: Which stream to opt after 10th to become an engineer?

Hello friend...you want to become a engineer..It was very good. The scope and salaries of engineers are very high.

    1.*SOFTWARE ENGINEER.*

you have to take science in class 11,12 first thing and take IT(or computers) as optional. (you can commerce etc also, but then you will be confined to BCA etc and not engineering). then:
    1. Take up B.tech Computer science : full fledge software development, including operating systems, programming, data structures, C, C , java, ASP.NETetc.
    2. BCA/MCA: in this you get acquainted with applications related study.
For being software engg, prefer taking science after 10 and then B.tech computer science

    2.*ELECTRICAL ENGINEER*

IF you want to become a Electrical Engineer So, focus on Some given Points.
-pass 2 with more than 60% with science(PCM).
    - Appear in IIT-JEE,AIEEE,CET.
    -perform with good rank.
    - choose you interested barnch in admitted college.

    3. Another option for you . you are eligible for diploma courses
After completing three year of diploma, you can directly get into second year of any engineering course.

    *ALL THE BEST*

Re: Which stream to opt after 10th to become an engineer?

    Hello friend...

After your 10th,you have basically three streams to join in your 12th:-
    1.Science with Maths.
    2.Science with Biology.
    3.Commerce.
    4.Arts.
You can opt for the stream in which you are interested.

Each of the stream has many scopes and one can do much better in any stream with his/her hard work.
Now,I am giving you the introduction of every stream below.

Starting with Science with Maths stream, this stream is basically concerned with Maths,Physics and Chemistry as its main subjects and one can become engineer after passing 12th.There are many other options after 12th such as B.Sc,BCA,Army,etc.

Biology stream has Physics,Chemistry and Biology as main subjects and one should opt for this stream if he wants to go in medical field. After 12th from this stream, options available are MBBS.B.Sc Botany,B.Sc Zoology,BDS,etc.

Commerce stream has subjects like Accounts,Economics,Business Studies,Maths, etc. There are various options available after 12th commerce like CA,CS,CWA,B.Com hons.,BBA,Hotel Management, etc.

Since, you want to be an engineer, you have to opt for Science with Maths stream.
There are many entrance exams conducted for admission in engineering courses.

Some of such entrance tests are IIT-JEE,AIEEE,BITSAT,VITEEE,WBJEE,etc.
You can appear in these exams if you have appeared in your 12th and are waiting for your result or you have passed 12th with at least 50%.
So,first complete your 12th and then appear for these entrance exams.

    Best of luck.
    Thanks.

    With Regards-
    Vikas.

    dear friend ,

to become an engineer friend you have to choose science stream with physics ,chemistry & mathematics as your main subjects for 10+2 .

after that you have to score at least 50% of marks in 10+2 to be applicable for the course of B.Tech .

but dear friend that is not sufficient for you to get best colleges for this course which has best placements .

you can also go for competitive entrance exams for engineering such as IIT ,AIEEE ,COMED-K ,ETC. .

therefore for getting good colleges you should work hard .

best of luck for your career .

Re: Which stream to opt after 10th to become an engineer?

for doing engineering u have two options after 10th..
1st u can go for a diploma in any polytechnic college it will be of 3years..
2nd join science stream and complete ur 10+2 and than after giving entrance exams u can go in various institutes for engineering..
listen any engineering has maths for atleast first 2 years so its better if u start studying maths right from the first ..
    its not difficult at all..
just concentrate ands keep practising and than all will go fine..
    best of luck..

    Dear Candidate,

To become an engineer, you must need to go with pure science subjects(i.e-PHYSICS,CHEMISTRY,MATHEMATICS.){PCM}. Not only that, you must have to score minimum 50% in PCM.After that you have to crack (AIEEE/IIT/any state joint entrance exam) any of this entrance exams to get admissions in engineering colleges.

    Thums up to you.

Thumbs up Re: Which stream to opt after 10th to become an engineer?

    Hi friend,

Its good that you are worried for your Future, since your dream is to become an Engineer,so you need to take Non-Medical(Science) stream in 11Th and 12Th in order to become an Engineer. As you said you are weak in Mathematics,so this is not a reason to worry,at the starting you will face difficulty but when you will get used to it then that tough Mathematics will become easy for you. This is my personal experience.

    Eligibility to join Engineering courses:

    • You must have pursued your 12Th with PCM background from a recognized Education board.
    • You must have completed your 12Th with a minimum of 40% marks.

Engineering Entrance Exams in India according to the new rule:

    • ISEET(Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test).
    • BITSAT(Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test).
    • IIT-JEE(Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Engineering Entrance).

You need to clear the ISEET for getting admission in any Engineering College of India.

Most Prestigious Engineering Colleges in India:

    IIT,Kharagpur

    IIT,Kanpur

    IIT,Bombay

    IIT,Madras

    IIT,Roorkee

    IIT,Guwahati

    IIT,BHU,Varanasi

    College of Engineering,Anna University,Guindy

    ISMU,Dhanbad

    BITS,Pilani

    BIT,Hyderabad

    BIT,Mesra

    PSG College of Technology,Coimbatore

    Manipal Institute of Technology,Manipal

    Institute of Technology,Nirma University,Ahmedabad

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology,Patiala

    Punjab Engineering College,Chandigarh.

    Delhi College of Engineering,Delhi.

    IIIT,Hyderabad.

    MANIT,Bhopal.

    Harcourt Butler Technological Institute,Kanpur.

    Osmania University College of Engineering,Hyderabad.

My recommendation to you is that you must try to score a good rank in the Entrance test,so that you can get admission in reputed Engineering College.

    All the best.
