first of all to write the entrance for the ips exam you should be above 21 years of age and have passed graduation ,as you are in 10th class write now its an very long way to go for you ,write now you should make the decision only of whether you want to take the science fields , commerce or arts or any other field because there is scope of becoming an ips officer if you take any of the fields mentioned so its up to you decide ,you should make the decision on the basis of your strength and liking for the subjects its always better to go for an subject which you like and are good in and are confidence because that increases your chance of doing well in that subject .
also i am attaching the information brochure for this years exam to give you an detailed idea about the exam

Re: Which Stream to choose after 10th If I'm interested in IPS..?

after 10th it is very difficult to choose subject for every student. you choose that subject ,in which you are interested more. Because for the exam of ips there will be two paper in which first paper consist of question related to your graduation portion and second part will be related to g.k.
so if you are interested in math than you can take this sub, if you are interested in bio sub than you can choose this sub also and you can also choose commerce sub. so all the best.

Re: Which Stream to choose after 10th If I'm interested in IPS..?

    Dear,
There is nothing like that of which stream to choose for becoming an IPS officer .
The minimum educational qualification required is to be a graduate in any field from any recognized university of India.
In order to appear for the civil services exam like the IPS/IAS exam you need to clear the CSAT exam conducted by the UPSC.
Age limitation is between 21-30 years with 5 years relaxation for the SC/ST candidates and 3 years relaxation for the OBC categories.
General categories get 4 while reserved categories get 7 attempts to crack the exam.
Basically , in the preparation of the IPS exam , general awareness is quite important.
Reading newspapers will help you a lot.

    Thanks.

Graduate from any specialization can apply for the IAS program. Therefore, you can select any subject. The basic areas you must concentrate are current affairs and English language. It is good to collect more information especially general knowledge. As it is a tough exam, you have to work hard. You can join in good coaching centers. UPSC carries out the exam. For applying for the test, the applicant must have an age between 21 and 30 years. Only Indian citizens can apply. IES is a good coaching center where you can join. More details are available in the website of UPSC.

Re: Which Stream to choose after 10th If I'm interested in IPS..?

There is no restriction to choose any particular stream for IPS, you can do your graduation in whatever field of your interest.
Also dont worry about optionals , UPSC provides a long list of optionals to choose from which covers almost all streams.

YOu can apply for Civil service in your final year of graduation also.

    Initial steps for preparation:
General awareness is the backbone for cracking civil service exam.
Become an avid reader of newspaper, & focus on current affairs section.
You can start formal coaching after your second year of graduation.

Well dear directly or indirectly the subject you would have in your +2 surely effects your further IPS preparation.

Lets have a light on Civil Services 2010 result, that will help you to take a better decision.

In Civil Service Examinations 2010, total 5,47,698 Applicants were applied from all India, out of which 2,69,036 were appeared for 1st stage i.e; CSAT or Preliminary. Only 12,491 able to pass CSAT which are again compete for Mains and at last only 920 got selected. Among that 920 Top in 25, 5 candidates were from general Science degree background, whereas 15 were engineers.

So, as you can see number of science aspirant are greater then commerce and arts, advice-able is to opt for science and either to so, continue your further studies with general science or Engineering. One of the better thing with engineering and science is that even if you won't able to get there, you need not to worry as your backbone will be strong enough. However, if you have any other better option then surely go for that one. But going through science or engineer is much better.

First of all it's really good to know that you are motivated enough to compete for IPS at this level (10th Class).
Yes the selection of the courses after class 10th is really important to accomplish your dreams. However, You must know that to get in IPS you need to give UPSC exams. There are a lot of subjects that one can opt for giving exams.Hence,I would suggest you to go ahead with the course(Science,Arts or Commerce). In the end, your interest in the subjects will matter most.

There is no special requirement.ther is no eligibility issue with the subjects the only egilibility is a bachelor degree.for ips one has to clear ics in which you can choose the subjects so in my advice you should choose the subject you like the most so that you get high percentage in 10 and 12
which will affect your ics too.

At Tenth Level it is very difficult to choose for IPS, but if you have good analytical and mathematical ability then Maths stream will be good for you. But if you don't have these ability and having interest in reading books and gaining the knowledge then Bio stream will be good.. First analysis your self then choose your area.

Dear friend ,no matter you take any subject in X th , whichever you take there should be a strong grip on that particular one.
Initially you have to fill up a form through UPSC ,in civil services, wherein on selection you can be a IPS officer.First preliminary exam has to be through, which contains General Science, Aptitude test and a language subject. These all are common subjects, for which you should be strong enough. After that in Main exams a long list is available from which you can choose according to your previous studies and stream.SO ALL YOU NEED IS A GOOD PREPARATION OF SUBJECTS OF YOUR INTEREST AND A DETERMINATION TO DO SO.. THAT IS MORE THAN ENOUGH.!!!!!
