    DEAT FRIEND.
CHARTERED ACCOUNTANCY IS A POPULAR BUSINESS ORIENTED COURSE UNDERTAKING THE ASPECTS OF THE AUDITING, TAXATION AND ACCOUNTS. THE CA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MANAGING TH INFLUX AND EFFLUX OF FINANCES AND CREDIT OF A COMPANY OR A FIRM.
THIS COURSE ID PROVIDED IN INDIA BY THE INDIA'S LARGEST CHARTERD ACCOUNTANCY INSTITUTE CALLED AS THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERD ACCOUNTANTS OF INDIA(ICAI).
THE COURSE IS PROVIDED AT THREE STAGES:
    1. COMMON PROFICIENCY TEST: THIS EXAM IS ACCESSIBLE TO THE 10TH PASS CANDIDATES FOR WHICH THEY CAN REGISTER FOR AND LATER AFTER THE 12TH THEY CAN GO FOR THE EXAM.
THIS EXAM IS NOT COMPULSARY AND YOU CAN EXEMPT IT IF YOU ARE A GRADUATE.
    2. INTEGRATED COMMON PROFFESIONAL COURSE: THIS COURSE IS FOR THE GRADUATES IN ANY DISCIPLINE.
    3. FINAL COURSE: THIS COURSE IS COMPULSARY FOR ALL THE CANDIDATES QUALIFYING THE IPCC COURSE FOLLOWED BY A COMPULSARY 100 HOURS TTI AND COMPUTER COURSE.

ALSO AS PER YOUR QUESTION IT IS NOT COMPULSARY TO GO FOR THE CPT. IF YOU ARE A COMMERCE GRADUATE WITH 55% OR A NON COMMERCE GRADUATE WITH 60 PERBENT THEN YOU CAN EXEMPT IT AND DIRECTLY GO FOR THE IPCC.
BUT I WOULD NOT ADVICE YOU TO GO WITH CA COURSE AS YOU ARE A POST GRADUATE DOING THIS WILL BE LIKE GOING FOR GRADUATION AGAIN AND UNDERESTIMATING THE VALUE OF YOUR POST GRADUATE DEGREE.
I WOULD ADVICE YOU TO GO WITH THE FURTHDR STUDIES LIKE M.PHIL ETC..SO AS TO GET A GOOD HIKE TO YOUR CAREER.

    GOOD LUCK

Yes you have to appear as well as clear the CPT(Common proficiency test) in order to appear for the next level that is IPCC(Integrated professional competence course)
even if you have completed your M.Com with 1st class.Because of the reason that the institute which is responsible for conducting CA exams that is Institute of Chartered Accountants of
India has set a definite procedure to apply and appear for the said exams.

So, you must firstly appear for CPT before moving on to the next level.
The procedure to become a chartered accountant can be explained as follows:
    1)CPT(Common proficiency test)-
This is the initial stage in the whole process. This is an objective examination of 200 marks consisting of 100 questions and 4 sections which are as follows-
    Fundamentals of accountancy
    Mercantile law
    Economics
    Quantitative aptitude
You need to obtain at least 100 marks in order to clear the examination.

    2)IPCC(Integrated professional competence course)-
This is the intermediate level in the whole process. After clearing the first level , you need to register for the next level. This is an subjective examination consisting of
7 papers for example- audit, information technology, strategic management, accountancy group 1 , accountancy group 2, etc.

    3)Ca Final exam-
This is the final stage in the whole procedure. But before appearing for this exam you need to do two things namely-
Firstly you have to register for the exam after clearing the intermediate level.
Secondly you have to complete three years of article ship training under a chartered accountant who is practicing in India.

Re: Should I clear CPT Exam for CA course even I'm a 1st class passed candidate of M.Com course?

No CPT is not required for you as you have completed your M.COM Graduation with 1st class.

CPT is the first stage of CA course.

In CA course you have 2 stages they are :- CPT and IPCC.

The person who have cleared CPT is only applicable for IPCC exam.

    To apply for CPT exam:-

You need to have completed your 12th .

You need to have minimum of 60% in your 12th.

THERE IS NO AGE LIMIT FOR CA COURSE.

But recently government has made a change in this process.

If your a Graduation then you can apply directly for IPCC with out CPT.

But you need to have minimum of 60% in your Graduation and 55% if belonging to commerce stream.

So apply for IPCC with out CPT as your a M.COM Graduate.
