Punjab Medical Entrance Test (PMET)

The Punjab Medical Entrance Test is the competitive entrance examination organized by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. It is one of the most popular Medical Entrance Examinations conducted in India. The PMET examination is carried out for the admission to several undergraduate medical courses to the medical colleges in Punjab that are affiliated to this university. The different programmes include MBBS, BAMS, BDS and BHMS.

About 20 medical and dental institutions are there in the state which carries out admission through PMET. Out of the total seats on offer through this exam, 85% of them are reserved for the domiciles of Punjab and remaining 15% to the outside state candidates. Numerous aspirants from all over the country participate in this examination every year.

Structure and Pattern of Punjab Medical Entrance Test

The PMET is a written examination organized in the state every year generally in the month of June. The examination is conducted only in various centers inside the state. The questions included in the PMET paper are of objective type and it consists of total 200 questions. Each question is supplied with multiple choices from which students have to select the appropriate answer from that. The duration to answer the questions is 150 minutes. The questions are asked from the topics such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The syllabus is taken from the 11th and 12th level academics. Each correct answer will be awarded with four marks and one mark will be reduced for each incorrect answer.

Qualification Criteria for Punjab Medical Entrance Test

To appear for this PMET examination, applicants must fulfill certain qualifications as prescribed by the University. The candidates should have pursued a pass in the 12th or equivalent examinations with PCB and English of a recognized board. The minimum percentage obtained in this examination should not be less than 50%. Also the age of the applicants should be at least 17 years.

Application Procedure of Punjab Medical Entrance Test

The application form for PMET examination can be obtained from the office of University or from any of the designated branches of Canara Bank by paying the prescribed application fee. It can also be procured by post by sending a request together with the application fee as bank draft. The student should fill all the necessary fields in the form and send it to the official address as mentioned along with required proofs.
