Physical fitness is necessary for applying the IPS officer. In addition, you must have a graduate degree in any discipline. Last semester students and those who are waiting for the results of graduation can also apply. The candidates should have at least 21 years while applying for the IPS exam. After the completion of mains, you must clear the physical fitness at the stage of interview. The candidates should be a citizen of India. There are specific physical requirements for men and women. To apply for Indian Police Service it is necessary to have the physical Fitness. The aspirants of IPS have to take the Indian Civil Service Exam carry out by UPSC. Yes , 100% Physical fitness is necessary while the selection process for an IPS Officer . You should be physically fit in terms of eyesight i.e 6/6 , blood tests ,height wise and it varies between male and female ,chest width , weight of the candidate and many other things are also involved while in Physical test of a candidate. And the most important thing is that you should be 21 years of old, and be citizen of India. Chest –

Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.

Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.(Those can’t expand the chest go to next service. If expansion is less during 1st Medical, i.e. just after interview; during second Medical, i.e. after the result, or appeal, expansion can be shown.)

Eye sigh:-

6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye.

6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye.

Near vision J 1 for good eye.

J2 for worst eye.

The correction is by lenses only.

High standard for the Colour-blind test.

No inherent night blindness.

My friend if you want to become a IPS officer then you have to be physically fit,there is no concession for PH candidates.As you have to lead a Police force ,hence you have to be completely physically fit.


As you know to become a IPS officer you have to appear for CSAT exam conducted by UPSc every year.

Eligibility for IPS:

1.You must be at least 21 years of age at the time of filling the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam form and not more than 30 years of age,33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs

2.Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs.

3.You should have a graduate degree from any college which is recognized by UGC, or possess an equivalent qualification.

4.If you are in the final semester or have taken their final degree exam but are awaiting the results can also appear for the IPS Preliminary examination provided they furnish their proof of degree while filling the Mains form.
