Options available other than the IT field

    Hi,

I am currently working in one of prestigious IT Company. I am having 7 years of exp in IT and have completed mechanical engineering. After engineering I did course and joined IT field. Since last couple of years I am getting bored with this industry and I am not able to concentrate on my work. I feel like quitting the job and choose any other career where I can do better. I am in dilemma for which profession I have to choose? Could someone please guide me on this?

Since you are a graduate in Mechanical engineering you can opt for mechanical jobs. There are large opportunities in the mechanical field now a day. More opportunities for these candidates are there abroad. Also there is need of these candidates in the Merchant Navy too. If you are not interested in the same you can opt for options like going for a Masters course. You have options like doing a MBA or M.Tech. Choose the career which you feel most comfortable doing. Otherwise you will face a similar situation a few years later. You need to do an analysis of the areas of interest and take a decision accordingly.

Some many employment opportunities are open to you. As you are a mechanical engineer having 7 years of industrial experience, you can apply for Government sector jobs. Most of the public sector companies prefer engineering graduates with experience. Cultivate the habit f reading employment dailies for knowing about the vacancies. If you are interested in teaching, you can work as lecturers in colleges. However, for that you need to complete your M.Tech. If you are interested in business and are financially sound, you can start a company and employ so many people. Otherwise, apply for jobs other than the IT field, like in banking sector, insurance, share trading and so on.

I think my friend stranger gives you a good advice.
If you working over 7 year in IT field then why you are looking for changing your field.??
You get bored This is not suitable reason..
I think this is wrong choice..I don't think that IT is bored field you have opportunities to invent some new then why you are thinking about this bad thing. You can invent some new software and new application for your company.
Let suppose you change your field and take admission in other side and then if you not get any job after that then what you doing.???
Think above line once again and then take decision.

hello , you have good experience !!!

you have worked for 7 years , and you think you are bored , now its time to shift your stream

the software companies have many streams such as development , testing , human resource , customer relation , etc

if you get bored in one ways choose the other stream of your interest.

to shift your stream you should do few certifications in the respected field.

with this idea you can select you interested path and earn more , be happy .

    all the best

    Hello dear

I think you are trying to shift your field which you have already shifted long back. Ok no problem you can definitely shift your career from IT to mechanical as you have completed BE in mechanical but I think there is one problem is that you have good experience of 7 years in IT field so as the branch and field is changing experience will not take into consideration and you must have to start from little bit lower position

    Good luck

Re: Options available other than the IT field

my friend IT is a very good field..
its the first case i am getting through that u are getting bored with this field...as this field provide promising career!

since u are not interested as u said that u a have done ur machenical engg then i would advice u to join the machenical engg branch...this branch is also a very good field and just like ECE is free from the recession..
as u said u are not satisfied the main reason could be recession impact on the IT industry in which is not the case with machenical..

there is a lot of scope in machenical...u can get to work in aerospace, automotive, chemical, computer, communication, paper and power generation industries...Indeed virtually every product or service in modern life has probably been touched in some way by a mechanical engineer...also u can get many public jobs like in the INDIAN RAILWAYS, INDIAN AIR FORCE(TECHNICAL), INDIAN ARMY, THERMAL POWER CORPORATIONS, etc...

    all the best...
