    You can select any of the subjects that interests you. It will easier to prepare for the engineering subjects as you already have the conceptual knowledge in this area. It is not necessary to select only engineering subjects. If you are interested in literature you can choose from more than 20 regional languages. If you not interested in selecting literature you have more than 25 different areas to select from. You can visit the UPSC site to know about the various options available. Details about the syllabus of these subjects is also provided.

    Re: Which optional subjects can I choose for IAS being a B.Tech graduate?

    The selection of optional optional subjects for Civil Services Examination does not
    depend on candidates' academic background.
    Irrespective of your academic background you can choose any two of the following mentioned subjects.

    Agriculture
    Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Chemistry
    Civil Engineering
    Commerce and Accountancy
    Economics
    Electrical Engineering
    Geography
    Geology
    History
    Law
    Management
    Mathematics
    Mechanical Engineering
    Medical Science
    Philosophy
    Physics
    Political Science and International Relations
    Psychology
    Public Administration
    Sociology
    Statistics
    Zoology

    but following combination of two optional subjects are strictly restricted
    - Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration;
    - Commerce & Accountancy and Management;
    - Anthropology and Sociology;
    - Mathematics and Statistics;
    - Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.
    - Management and Public Administration;
    - Any two engineering subjects
    - Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science.

    You should decide yourself which are the subjects you are good at and which
    are the subjects where your interests pull you.
    You can refer syllabus of each and every subject to understand whether you have
    or you could have interest in a particular subject.

    Refer the UPSC website for syllabus.

    I will give you advice to select only that subject in which you have some interest. Your interest can give you more success if you will select without the interest then you will face lot of problem. As mentioned above many members provide you the subject list you can select according to your choice.
