Hi,

CATHODE RAYS ARE BEAM OF ELECTRONS WHICH MAY BE OBSERVED IN VACCUM TUBE.

Here the negatively charged electrode is called as cathode.

And the positive once is called as anode..

But,JJ thomasan discoverd about that cathode rays are composed of negatively charged particles.

It is used in the Monitors as the cathode ray tube to pass the beam of light.

It is used in the Televisions.

Hope this will be helpful.

THANKYOU.

friend,

Cathode Rays is Discovered by J.J. Thomson.
Cathode is A terminal Of Electrodes.

DEFINITION - A cathode ray is a stream of electrons leaving the negative electrode, in a discharge tube or emitted by a heated filament in certain electron tubes.

Properties of Cathode Rays -

Cathode rays travel in straight lines.

Cathode rays Apply force on Particle.

Cathode rays consist of negatively charged particles.

Cathode rays get deflected when these are subjected to a strong magnetic field.

Cathode rays heat the object only which they fall.

Cathode rays can penetrate through thin metallic sheets.

Cathode rays ionize the gases through which they travel.

Cathode rays travel with speed nearly equal to that of light.

Cathode Rays Make Shadow of Particle, which is placed in Path of Cathode rays.

Faraday had been the first to notice a dark space just in front of the cathode, where there was no luminescence. This came to be called the "cathode dark space".

Cathode rays also called an electron beam.

good luck............

hello friend...

About its Invention:-

-Cathode rays experiment is done by the J.J.Thomson

-He invented the Cathode rays and discovered it through the Experiment of the Discharge tube experiment

-The Discharge tube is made up of the glass which is free from the air

-Discharge tube should have an vacuum pump through which the air is emitted and make the tube with air free

-Discharge tube with the Anode and the other end with the Cathode and pass the electricity in to the tube after making it air free by giving a high voltage to the electrodes and when the electricity is passed

-And at the end opposite to the Cathode begins to glow and as the light is observed due to the cathode electrode called "Cathode Rays"

-By all the things that were done the will be a charged particles that will be emitted as also called as the negatively charged particles which are called as "Electrons"

properties Cathode rays :-

-The rays will travel in the straight line

-The rays will be in a straight line if we keep a tube at the center of the point

-They are having the high mass and process's the kinetic energy that is when a paddle is placed in the center

-when the cathode rays are emitted it rotates the wheels due to kinetic energy

Advantages:-

-It is used in the Monitors as the cathode ray tube to pass the beam of light

-It is used in the Televisions

all the best...!!

Re: What is meant by cathode rays? What is its importance? Who found it?

Hi buddy

Cathode rays are observed when in vacuum tubewhen two electrodes are kept at high voltage.

They are a stream of electrons.

Cathode rays are streams of electrons observed in vacuum tubes.

If an evacuated glass tube is equipped with two electrodes and a voltage is applied, the glass opposite of the negative electrode is observed to glow, due to electrons emitted from and travelling perpendicular to the cathode

They were first observed in 1869 by German physicist Johann Hittorf, and were named in 1876 by Eugen Goldstein kathodenstrahlen, or cathode rays.

Cathode rays of stream of electrons observed in a vacuum tube during performing the experiments on electricity.
If an evacuated glass tube is equipped with two electrodes and voltage is applied then the glass opposite to the cathode will appear glowing due to the emitted electrons travelling perpendicular to the cathode electrode
They were first observed by German scientist JOHANN HITTROF.

Re: What is meant by cathode rays? What is its importance? Who found it?

Hai,

Cathode rays were found by J.J.Thomson..

Cathode rays is a stream of electrons normally observed in vacuum tubes...

Here i placed two electrodes each one at the end of vacuum tube.

These rays travel from negatively charged to positively charged end of the vacuum tube..

Here the negatively charged electrode is called as cathode. And the positive once is called as anode..

Importance:-
• By using these cathode rays cathode ray tube is developed which is used in research laboratories to convert any signal into visual signals..
• Produce X-rays..
• Used in Television and Computer screens..

All the best..

Re: What is meant by cathode rays? What is its importance? Who found it?

Hello Friend..........

Cathode Rays:
The Cathode Rays were first founded by the Experiment known as the J.J Thomson's effect and this was first founded by the J.J.Thomson.

The Cathode rays experiment is done by the J.J.Thomson and he invented the Cathode rays and discovered it through the Experiment of the Discharge tube experiment and this Discharge tube is made up of the glass which is free from the air and this Discharge tube should have an vacuum pump through which the air is emitted and make the tube with air free............
Then arrange one end of the Discharge tube with the Anode and the other end with the Cathode and pass the electricity in to the tube after making it air free..........
Apply high voltage to the electrodes and when the electricity is passed the end opposite to the Cathode begins to glow and as the light is observed due to the cathode electrode and this is named as the Cathode Rays......
Later these negatively charged particles were named as the Electrons...........

Cathode rays also have some of the properties........
*They travel in the straight line even if an object is placed in the middle of the tube.....
*Cathode rays are having the mass and process's the kinetic energy that is when a paddle is placed in the center when the cathode rays are emitted it rotates the wheels due to kinetic energy......
*When an electric field is applied in the cathode ray fields, they get deflected towards the positive field of the electric fields this shows that the cathode rays are negatively charged particles.......
These are some of the properties which are present for the cathode rays..........

Cathode rays are invisible but the presence of the cathode rays are observed in the vacuum tubes....

Re: What is meant by cathode rays? What is its importance? Who found it?

In mid 1850s farday began to study electrical discharge in partially evacuated tubes. The discharge only observed at low pressure and high voltage. Current start flowing through a stream of particles moving in the tube from -ve cathode to +ve anode. These are cathode rays. Uses- in t.v picture tube.the behaviour of the rays are similar to that expected -vely charged particles called electrons.thankyou

HI FRIENDS...............

CATHODE RAYS ARE BEAM OF ELECTRONS WHICH MAY BE OBSERVED IN VACCUM TUBE.
IT WAS FIRST OBSERVED BY GERMAN PHYSICT"JOHAN HITROFF" IN 1869.
IT WAS NAMED IN 1876 BY EUGEN GOLDSTEIN.

THEY ARE EMITTED BY CATHODE.
THEY TRAVEL IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND PRODUCE SHADOW WHEN ANY OBJECT COMES IN ITS PATH.

IMPORTANCE
IT FINDS USE IN T.V ANDIN MONITORS OF COMPUTERS.
IT ALSO PROVED THAT ATOM IS DIVISIBLE

Re: What is meant by cathode rays? What is its importance? Who found it?

Hello friend

u have asked a very good question

Generally cathode rays is a beam of electrons that travel from negatively charged to positively charged..electron which are placed in negatively charged are called cathode and the electrons which are placed in positively charged are called anode..since electrons are replled by the negative charge the cathode is seen as source

it is not so clear who discoverd but jj thomasan discoverd about that cathode rays are composed of negatively charged particles

thank u for asking this question
