YOU HAVE CHOOSEN RIGHT DIRECTION. DOING ENGINEERING AND THEN TRY FOR IAS IS BEST OPTION AS IF YOU ARE NOT SELECTED IN FORST ATTEMPT THEN YOU CAN PREPARE AGAIN FOR IT .IF STILL UNFORTUNATELY YOU ARE NOT SELECTED THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD CARREAR IN ENGINEERING.

Yes friend, you are in right direction . You can become IAS officer after doing engineering. In order to giving IAS exam you have to do engineering with the following streams-

    1- Mechanical Engineering
    2- Electrical Engineering
    3- Civil Engineering
    4- Chemical Engineering
    5- Electronics and Communication Engineering

As You have decided for doing B.Tech after 12th so you are applicable for IAS exam.

IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service . IAS exam is conducted by UPSC in once in a year in the civil service exam . The name of the exam is CSAT exam.

In order to appear in IAS exam you must be graduate . Final year student are also applicable for appearing in IAS exam.

Your age should be in between 21 to 30 years . There is some Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC category students as per government rule.

The maximum number of attempts for SC/ST candidates is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 times and for general candidate it is 5 times.

Civil Service examination is divided in three stages-

    1)Preliminary
    2)Main exam
    3)Interview

    hello friend,

You have taken the right decision to choose science stream to achieve your goals

If you checkout all IAS officer who got selected recently in few years are mainly engineering students

In top 30 students more than 15 students were engineering students last year

Engineers mind is more sharp and quick then any others

    All the best!

    hello frnd......

as u take PCM in 11th.......... but u want to become IAS then it not necessary to do engineering
you will do B.A and start preparation for IAS from first year....

    Hi friend,

I must say that it is the best best selection, if i were you. This way will lead you exactly to your target if you follow mine instruction which i am writing below.

Working on Computers, C++ specially :

    >> arrays

    >> dynamic memory concept

    >> structure

    >> Function(call by reference)

    >> Input/Output

    >> Pointer

If you work on these items in Computer then engineering will be lot easier for you.

Now, let's come to PCM subjects :

    >> Nicely study the Mechanics part of Physics and Modern Physics in Physics.

    >> Concept on Magnets and current will help you a lot.

    >> In maths, only thing you need to concentrate will be calculus and Co-ordinate Geometry.

    >> Chemistry is easy subjects, Concept will help here, specially Bonding.

Now, if you have followed these Guidelines then you will have less problems in reference of Concept.
That will be a superb Base for you, which will help you lot in Mains of Civil services.

Get Entry in a nice college but either take CS/IT , if you have followed mine guidelines.

There you have to concentrate on Natural Languages, DBMS,etc

And then Time comes for IAS examination aka civil services examinations.

Civil services Examination is Conducted by UPSC or Union Pubic service Commission.

It is conducted in three stages :

    >> CSAT : This is a simple Aptitude test.

    >> Mains : If you qualify in CSAT then after 2-3 months, there will be a test named Mains. Here you face a written examination, of subjects you chose to appear in the examinations.

    >> Interview : Simply, Interview, if you Qualify Mains,,,, No it's not that Simple... It's one of the hardest Interviews.

Eligibility Criteria for Civil services :

    >> You must be Graduate from any recognized University.

    >> Your age must lie in mid of 21 to 30.
Relaxations for OBC : 3 Yrs in Maximum Age
Relaxations for SC/ST : 5 Yrs in Maximum age.

    >> You must be Indian Citizen for attempting this examination

    >> Number of Attempts allowed : 4
    OBC : 7
    SC/ST : No limit

    Best of Luck!!

    Hope it helps!!
