    Hello friend...

**The Duration of the Course is 4 years. Metallurgical Engineering deals with metal-related areas.

    Branches of Metallurgy

    -->physical metallurgy

    -->extractive metallurgy

    -->mineral processing.

    **Physical metallurgy

-->It deals with problem solving i.e. development of metallic alloys needed for different types of manufacturing and construction.

    **Extractive metallurgy

-->It involves extracting metal from ore.

    **Mineral processing

-->It involves gathering mineral products from the earth’s crust.

    Scope of Metallurgical Engineering :

-->Metallurgical engineers are employed in many industries and work for companies that refine, produce, manufacture and distribute metals.

-->As metals are used in so many industries, employment can be in large companies or small consulting firms.

    Higher Studies after B.Tech

-->You can get into either M.Tech or M.S.

-->As you are going through GATE Exam, you will be getting into M.Tech because GATE Qualification is needed only for the M.Tech programmes but not for the M.S Programmes.

    M.Tech Programmes

    Automotive Engineering

    Mining Engineering

    MIneral Engineering

Re: Is it a good decision to study Masters in Automotive or Aerospace through GATE after completing B.Tech in Metallurgy?

    Hello Friend !!

    B.Tech in Metallurgy :

Metallurgical Engineering is a field that deals with all sorts of metal-related areas.

The three main branches of this major are physical metallurgy, extractive metallurgy and mineral processing.

Physical metallurgy deals with problem solving i.e. development of metallic alloys needed for different types of manufacturing and construction.
Extractive metallurgy involves extracting metal from ore.
Mineral processing involves gathering mineral products from the earth’s crust.

The Duration of the Course is 4 years.

Employment Scope of Metallurgical Engineering :

Metallurgical engineering has a wide scope.

Metallurgical engineers are employed in many industries and work for companies that refine, produce, manufacture and distribute metals. Because metals are used in so many industries, employment can be in large companies or small consulting firms.

    Further Studies after B.Tech :

You can get into either M.Tech or M.S.

As you are going through GATE Exam, you will be getting into M.Tech because GATE Qualification is needed only for the M.Tech programmes but not for the M.S Programmes.

You can select any of the M.Tech Programmes :

    Automotive Engineering,
    Mining Engineering,
    MIneral Engineering,
    Mining Machinery,
    Petroleum Engineering,
    Open Cast & Surface Engineering.

Top Colleges offering M.Tech in Metallurgy Programme are :

    1. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur Kanpur
    2. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay Bombay
    3. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur Kharagpur
    4. Indian Institute of Technology Madras Chennai
    5. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Delhi
    6. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee Roorkee
    7. Indian Institute of Technology Guwhati Guwhati
    8. Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad Hyderabad
    9. IT-BHU Varanasi Varanasi
    10. ISMU Dhanbad Dhanbad
    11. Indian Institute of Technology Gandhi Nagar Gandhi Nagar
    12. Indian Institute of Technology Patna Patna
    13. Indian Institute of Technology Punjab Ropar
    14. Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan Jodhpur
    15. BITS Pilani Piliani.

The GATE Qualification is itself the admission card into these Insttitutes.

    Hi Guest,

Not a problem, but you need to work hard for those subjects. The subjects will be new in Aerospace so I suggest you to prepare from now it in order to get grip on the subjects which are present in Aerospace.

When we observe the syllabus pattern of Aerospace and Metallurgy they are different and improving the subjects gains you more in future.

    Thank You,

    All The Best.
