    Hey friend,

In becoming a IAS officer is a good ambition and for joining in as a IAS Officer considers certain procedures which has to be followed in order to join in the post.

To tell about it IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service and for joining in this post you need to write the entrance exam for it and the exam which you need to write is the IAS Exam which is being conducted by UPSC every year for selecting candidates for the post of IAS Officer.

Applying for the exam being a 12th standard student is not possible as you don't satisfy the eligibility criteria needed for the exam as there are certain standards which has to be satisfied in order to apply for the exam.

As regarding the education qualification needed for the exam you are ineligible to apply for the IAS Exam.

The education qualification for the IAS exam states that the candidate appearing for the exam must be a graduate from a recognized university with a fair percentage in any discipline.

There are certain other criteria's which include such as:

    > Candidate should be a citizen of India.Age Limit for the exam is that the candidate must have 21-30 years for candidates of General Category.

    > For candidates of SC/ST it is 21-35 years and for OBC candidates it is 21-33 years.

You need to satisfy all the above criteria's in order to prove that you are eligible to apply for the exam to become a IAS Officer

It is better that you continue your studies and then finish graduation in any discipline from a recognzied university and then apply for the exam.

If you tend to satisfy the criteria's then you can apply for the exam in 2 modes:

Re: How can I become a good IAS officer after 12th?

    Hi Shivam,

Well shivam, as you must be aware that you are not eligible for IAS just after 12th since it requires a minimum of Graduation which you for sure do not hold.

So, my suggestion for you will be to concentrate on graduation degree with a nice platform like B.Tech or MBBS or BCA or BBA,etc so that if you attempt for Civil Exams and if by chance you get disqualified then you are not sorry for your career. One more thing shivam, since you have a lot of time since you appear in IAS examination, work on your GK , since it will one of the things which will affect your performance then enhance yourself with more knowledge since it will help you.

So, just concentrate on your current studies, aptitude and of course G.K.
And for more details keep checking : www.upsc.gov.in
    Best of luck

After 12th you are not eligible to appear for the IAS exam. You need to first complete graduation. You can apply for the any specialisation of your interest. There is not restriction on the area of specialisation chosen by a candidate for graduation. You need to start preparing especially for the general awareness section. You can also start preparing the other aptitude oriented areas like reasoning, QA, verbal ability etc. Solve all types of questions to be thorough for the CSAT section. After that you can start preparing for the mains. You can select the subjects based on the specialisation in graduation.
