No, it is not compulsory to take science as a subject in the Intermediate level to become an IAS officer. In order to become an IAS officer you need to attend the Civil services exam conducted by UPSC. The main eligibility criterion for attending this exam is a graduation. The graduation can be secured in any subject area. Also important is to obtain the graduation from a recognized institute. The age should be a minimum of 21 years. The number of attempts for the IAS exam is 4 in case of the general category candidates.
