    Preparation for GATE Civil Engineering

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is conducted every year for admissions to M.Tech courses in IITs,NITs,BITS,etc

A candidate can appear in GATE only if he/she is a B.Tech degree holder in any stream or a dual degree or an M.Sc. degree holder

For more information on GATE Click Here

Mostly the topics which come in the GATE exam are from 3rd and 4th year so it would be better if you start your preparations from the next year

You can also take coaching if you want from a good coaching institute like Made Easy

for access to more study material to your subject Click Here

I have attached some past papers of GATE along with this post

Well since you are only in 2nd year which means that you are not eligible for the GATE exam but since you are confirm about it that you want to do Mtech so it is very good things .Mtech is the master degree which most Btech students like to pursue as it provides them more technical knowledge then others. Now you have a lot of time to prepare for the examination .You can start from beginning.

GATE exam is conducted by the IIT's every year once to select students for different Mtech courses in IIT's .

    Eligibility for GATE::

You should have done their 4 year engineering degree from a recognized college. There is no minimum CGPA required for the exam.
If you have done MSC in computer application or any sceince subjects then you are eligible .
Third year engineering students are not allowed to appear for the exam
GATE score is valid for 2 years

Tips to prepare for the GATE:

The GATE papers usually contains questions which you have studied in your 4 year engineering so while studying for the exam study thoroughly every things and try to remember all points.

After completing your 2 nd year try to solve all model papers and previous year question papers that has come from the second year of engineering .

Make a proper plan and follow it every day this will help you to be in touch with subjects .

Make a proper note book and make notes in it.Make notes of every thing important that you have study in your entire engineering .Do not throw this note book .It will help you to do revision .

Now you can't give gate exam with 3rd year only with final year you can give the exam but it is good for you to prepare for it from now. In civil there are a lot of seats and students are less so there may be a good chance for you. For preparing you have to pay attention on your technical and you can take help from last year papers.

    Hi

GATE- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Its basically an All India entrance examination which is conducted by the IIT's and IIM's jointly in virtue to select brilliant minds for the M.Tech courses in India.

Civil Engineering is also one of the finest and ever green Engineering streams, and with Indian needing more than 4 million Civil Engineers by 2020, it makes it even better.

So If you are in 2nd year, its in fact early for you to start preparing for your GATE exam, as it mainly consists of questions from your whole B.Tech. But you are only in 2nd year right now.

What is advisable is that you work on the academic topics which have been covered in your course till now right from the 1st year.
Buy some of the CE books for your preparations, about which you may find out Here.

Also I am uploading the GATE syllabus for Civil. Please download it, and ACTUALLY start preparing at the end of your 3rd year. That is the best time to commence your preparations for GATE 2014.

    Hope this helps

    All the best.

To appear for the exam, you must be a Bachelor degree holder in Technology/Architecture/Engineering. You can also apply while pursuing the final year. To get a high score in the exam, always refer standard books for GATE. Try to cover the entire syllabus. After reading every topic, you must prepare notes. This will help you to revise the points in the last moment. You can also undergo mock tests which will help you to analyze the studies.
