Re: Am I eligible for IAS entrance exam if I'm a B.Com Final year with 19 years of age? If yes, suggest some optional subjects?

    Dear friend.
Indian Administrative Services Exam (IAS) is the India's most popular and toughest exam.
Clearing this exam is every one's dream. After clearing you get directly placed in the top ranking officers and the governors in the Indian Government.
This exam is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC). The notification and the application forms, prospectus is accessible from the popular newspapers and the official website of UPSC: www.upsc.gov.in
in the month of february every year.

To be eligible for this exam you have be a graduate degree holder from any discipline may it be arts, science or commerce. There is no minimum percentage criteria also. The number of attempts for the general category is 4 and exceeds to 7 for the OBC candidates. A SC/ST candidate can apply any number of times.
Final year students of their bachelor program from a recognised university are also eligible to apply.
So you are pass with the educational qualification as you are a final year bachelor student.

Now comes the age criteria: for this exam you have to be atleast 21 years of age and upper age limit is 30 years.
There is age relaxation only in the upper age limit and not lower for the SC/ST/OBC candidates. So you havd to be atleast 21 years of age in that particular year.
Since you are just 19 years of age you are not eligible now. You can go for the IAS after two years till then you have a golden chance to prepare for the IAS exam with full strength and hard work.

The exam is conducted in three phases:
    1. Prelim exam: This exam is objective type and consist of english, general awareness, reasoning concepts.

    2. Main exam: This exam is descriptive type. It also include two optional subjects.
I would suggest you to go with public administration with sanskrit as maximum number of selections are taken from them.
Also since you are b.com you can go for finance and accountancy also.

    3. Interview

    ::Good Luck::

Sorry friend , you are not yet eligible for appearing in IAS exam conducted by UPSC as you are younger by 2 years at this time. The age limit for appearing in IAS or other civil services exam is 21 to 30 years. So you have 2 years to go to be eligible for this exam. But if you really want to prepare for IAS then you should make maximum use of this 2 years time for your best preparation for IAS.
    Thank you.Best wishes.

Re: Am I eligible for IAS entrance exam if I'm a B.Com Final year with 19 years of age? If yes, suggest some optional subjects?

No, you are not eligible to appear in IAS exam. You are not satisfying age limit criteria, you are satisfying criteria of minimum education qualification. But you are only 19 years old. For IAS one should be atleast 21 years old on the year of appearing for exam. You can appear in IAS exam after the completion of 21 years of age. Here is IAS eligibilty:

    Education qualification
Bachelor’s degree of a recognized university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification

    Age limit
21-30 years as on 1 june of the year of examination

Re: Am I eligible for IAS entrance exam if I'm a B.Com Final year with 19 years of age? If yes, suggest some optional subjects?

NO you are not eligible to apply on IAS entrance exam...
There are some other requirements to be satisfied,
such as the appearing student must be an Indian for IAS exam.
A candidate appearing for Indian Civil Services Exam must be at least 21 years of age and should not exceed 30 years of age.
But in some cases these age bars are a bit relaxed.
For example :- it can be maximized up to 5 years if a candidate belongs to SC/ST category,
it can be maximized up to 3 years in case of any other backward classes,
the upper limit can be relaxed to 5 years if someone is domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir.

your age is 19 years, and you must be 21 years for appling on IAS...
