    National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Common Medical exam in TN)

    Medical Council of India conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for the selection of aspirants who are eligible to pursue the MBBS programs within Tamil Nadu. Those who pass the written test with the required score can expect medical admissions in Government or private medical colleges in Tamil Nadu through merit or management quota. Earlier, in Tamil Nadu, there weren’t any entrance tests conducted for providing medical admissions. However, this year onwards, Tamil Nadu Government and MCI made proposals on the implementation of NEET for medical admissions.

    Structure and Pattern of the NEET

    It is an objective type test that includes questions on the Science subjects in the 10+2 course. Aspirants will have to answer the questions in an OMR sheet by filling the correct answer bubble among the 4 given options. English will be the only mode of instruction for the NEET exam. The test will last for time duration of 180 minutes.

    Qualification Criteria for NEET

    The educational qualification to apply for the NEET is a pass in the 10+2 course in Science streams. Candidates must have compulsorily studied Biology as a subject in their XII course. The percentage requirement is 50% for general category students. Applicants who come under SC, ST and OBC category can have the benefit of 10% relaxation in their total marks. Likewise, the percentage requisite for disabled students is only 45% marks in their 12th Class.

    Application Procedure for NEET

    Applicants can procure forms for the NEET from the medical colleges in Tamil Nadu on remittance of the required application fee. After duly filling in forms, they are required to submit the same to the institution attaching the pertinent credentials mentioned in the prospectus.
