Since you interested in the field of Merchant Navy you must surely pursue the same. There are two options available to join this stream. First is to join the stream with your 12th standard score. Another is to join after B.Tech in Marine Engineering course. If you join after 12th standard then you will be working on the deck side as a cadet. After B.tech you can join in the technical side. However since you have completed B.Tech in Computer Science you can join in the technical side provided you do a one year course. For this you will need to first appear for the entrance exams conducted by various institutes like IIT, IGNOU, MERI etc. You can appear for the exams when you are in your final year. Also make sure that you have at least a first class in engineering.

The Merchant navy is one of the most challenging and adventures careers one can opt for. Candidates have to undergo a pre sea training course in one of the marine institutions. As to get admission in any of these institution candidates need to have more than 50% marks. There are different entrance exam which you need to qualify as to get admission. After the entrance there will be a personnel interview as well as physical fitness test. After getting training from a good institution candidates can work for any shipping company. My name is Debasish Kumar Das. I have just passed out Class 12 from CBSE board.But the main reason is I failed in mathematics and am hereby due to appear for a re-test on july conducted by CBSE board.The result will be out by August.I scored 82% in english but i m not sure about my PCM combination. Can i join Merchant Navy (B.Tech) if i secure 50% aggregate in PCM combination or less then 60% aggregate in PCM combination? Please enlighten me sir as i desperately want to join the Merchant Navy (B.Tech). Is there any chance of me getting into Merchant Navy (B.Tech)? Please help me.

According to me better go for Merchant Navy because in Indai there is less scope of Marine engineering at present.!!!!To join Merchant Navy you need to give the entrance exam of various colleges which offers this degree.!!!!

Since you are a final year student of Btec you can start preparation to join in Merchant navy or marine engineering ..
The merchant navy and marine engineering both are equally important and give lot of opportunities .Since you are very much interested in this field then you can either join in any of this after Btec .
You can join in merchant navy after Btec and after 12th also there is difference in the post that you get according to the difference in the education ....
If you join after 12 th or after Btec you have to apear for an entrance exam ,if you join after 12th then you will be posted in deck side as a cadet or if you join after Btec then you will be getting a good post in the engineers post .
You can join in marine engineering after Btec , What ever may be the course you opt there is an entrance test if you pass in the test then you will be admitted for the coaching .

marine engineering is in technical field.
after completing btech you write gate exam or marine engineering offering university exam to do mtech in marine engineering field. so after completing mtech you will get a nice job in shipyard companies with nice salary.

you can get into the merchant navy by clearing the entrance exams
there are forms available online and offline which you can fill and sit for the exam

-Merchant navy is a job field,where as marine engineering is the best fitted course to do a job in merchant navy.

graduate mechanical engineers is obviously only for people graduating from a mechanical stream .. not computer science. !!!

The minimum requirement for joining the merchant navy as a deck cadet is candidate should have passed 12 months,which is offered by various institutes across India.

The minimum requirement for which is the candidate must have passed class 12 (PCM) with at least 60% aggregate or some institutes also have 55% as minimum requirement.

Duration of full training is 12 months,and the course fees varies from institutes to institutes.however inticatively it will cost at least 70,000 for one year only course fees.

However,private institutes can demand anything between 1,20,000 - 1,50,000.
