Merchant navy is considered one of the high income domain. At the same time, it is one of the toughest fields too as you tend to remain in ship for a longer period of time. As a female, it would be really career option. Merchant navy demands candidates who are physically fit and have good eyesight. There are different ways by which one can get into this field. BSc nautical science and B.E. marine engineering is one way through which candidates can enter merchant navy, this will take you to the technical engineering jobs directly.

After your diploma you can join 12 months pre sea training course for cadets. There is a six months course of pre-sea training for general purpose ratings. You can also opt for mid terms courses leading to Alternate Training Scheme for Marine Engineers (ATS) after your 12th. Merchant navy candidates need to undertake stress and should have emotional stability. Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) Kolkata; Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI),Mumbai; Ministry of Surface Transport, Directorate General of Shipping, TS Chanakya, Karaus, New Bombay are some of the Institutes offering Merchant navy courses.

I assume that you are interested in sea and ships, why don’t you look at options like marine engineering and ship technology, it would be much better for a female compared to merchant navy.

As a Merchant Navy officer, you live a fair share of your life onboard. It is a challenging job and with lot of responsibilities. A job is suitable for candidates who love to travel.
For admission in Government institutions a candidate should requires a minimum qualification of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Math or eqqualent. This option is available to both male and female candidates under the age of 20. Some of the best Government Recognized Institutes in India are Tolani Maritime Institute, Vel’s College of Maritime Studies, International Maritime Institute (IMI), and Chennai School of Ship Management. After the admission candidate will undergo pre-sea training.
Mainly three courses are offered for 10+2 students, a 3 year degree course in Nautical Science, 4 year degree course in Marine Engineering and a 3month course for Deck Cadets. For diploma students like you a 2 year course is offered by some institutions like Southern Academy of Maritime Studies and Vel’s Academy of Maritime Education & Training.
Unmarried male and female candidates can equally apply for the course. There are recognized private institutes which enroll women candidate but the ratio of women candidate is very low, each year only 3 or 4 join the course. It is better for a female candidate to get training in a Government colleges through IIT JEE entrance because most Indian companies doesn’t talk female candidates directly. Also the work pressure and hard labor makes the job very tough. Being surrounded by men all the time is another major situation which makes the job uncomfortable for most females. Another suggestion is that, candidates should be very careful while selecting institutions as there are many institutes offering training and job placement, but don’t have government recognition. Students from these institutes will get jobs only in company ships affiliated to the institute itself.

yaar chandini mai bhi CSE se pas-out hu... kerla side ek course hai ship mech. type just like B.tech... aap wo karo.. cse deploma walo ko koi 7000 rs. se uppar nai dega .... ya phir aap B.tech karo cse se or phir try karo..

12th with physics, chemistry and Math- you can join as deck cadet
And if you are engineer in MEchanical, electrical branch- you can join as junior engineer or engine cadet
otherwise you will have to pursue some course,
The eligiblity to join marine engineering the eligiblity is-

Career in Merchant Navy can be pursued as :-

• A rating in two specialized fields :-

• Marine Engineering and

Officers :- (after 10+2 )

1. 3 year degree course in Nautical Science for (10+2) students.

3. 2 year course for Diploma Holders.
   
4. 1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers.
   
5. 3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students.
